The Democrat field for 2020 is starting to form.
Dozens of Democrats are putting their efforts to take down President Trump into motion.
But two of the main contenders might be done for after getting into big trouble.
The Democrat strategy for 2020 is seemingly to fully embrace identity politics.
Instead of promoting politicians on their merits, they are pushing forward “diversity” above all else.
CNN believes Democrats need to push forward women in 2020, giving two women Senators their top two spots in their “power rankings.”
Those two Senators are Elizabeth Warren and Kamala Harris.
They are both popular voices in the party, who generally lean to the left of the Democrat establishment.
But they have some baggage, specifically around their actions during the confirmation process of Justice Brett Kavanaugh.
In fact, both of them are under investigation for ethics complaints around fundraising emails sent during that process.
The Foundation for Accountability and Civic Trust (FACT), a non-partisan organization that promotes accountability, ethics, and transparency in government, is pushing the complaint against both the Senators.
They are also listed on the top of their list of the worst ethics violators of 2018 for how egregious the violations are.
The two Senators used their opposition to Kavanaugh as an opportunity to fundraise, according to the group.
“A related to official action certainly casts an unfavorable reflection on the Senate,” FACT stated in their complaint. “In addition, the use of official action for political fundraising is directly related to official duties.”
Citing Senate rules, the group says that Senators are not allowed to ask for contributions based on actions taken in their official capacity.
The fundraising in question is a number of emails sent by both Senators during their fight to stop Kavanaugh.
Both Senators were loud opponents of Kavanaugh.
Harris, in particular, made a name for herself by grilling Kavanaugh with questioning.
The complaint seems to have caught the Senators off guard.
Warren was made aware of the complaint after being questioned by her opponent on a debate stage.
She claims to not have been aware of the complaint at the time of the debate.
It is unclear what the result of the complaint will be.
But the complaint itself will certainly come back during their likely campaigns for president in 2020.
Warren, in particular, is shaping up as a serious challenge to Trump.
She is already working on pushing her campaign into full gear, with aides reportedly looking into office space for a headquarters.
Purchasing the space won’t be an issue considering she already has $12 million in campaign funds for use in 2020.
Harris also seems to be fully prepared for 2020.
In an interview with MSNBC, she predicts that things are going to be “ugly” in 2020.
“Let’s be honest. It’s going to be ugly,” she stated.
That prediction will almost certainly be true.
The left is in an all-out war with President Trump, and 2020 will be their best chance to take him down for good.
Do you think Trump will win re-election in 2020?
