Senator John Fetterman stumbles from one political crisis to the next.
Fetterman’s attempts to disguise himself as a Trump supporter aren’t going well either.
And John Fetterman stepped in it bigtime with this bad move.
John Fetterman Plays Both Sides
John Fetterman is caught between a rock and a hard place.
On one hand, he’s from a state that’s getting more conservative by the day after just throwing out one of their liberal Senators.
He also knows it’s nearly impossible to survive in the Democrat Party without being an extreme progressive.
His way of trying to balance the two was cozying up to the Trump administration before they officially entered the White House.
But now with a Trump administration fully underway, he’s back to siding with his fellow Democrats and is picking a fight with Elon Musk.
Fetterman Joins the Most Liberal Senators to Go After Elon Musk
According to The Hill, “Sen. John Fetterman (D-Pa.) went after tech billionaire Elon Musk over a report that his Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) has been trying to access an IRS system.”
“His post featured a screenshot of a Politico headline from a report on DOGE’s attempts to access the IRS’s Integrated Data Retrieval System (IDRS). A White House official confirmed to Politico the IDRS access effort by DOGE.”
Regardless of what one thinks of this attempt by DOGE, Musk is acting under the authority of Trump.
The article continues, “DOGE, which Musk leads, has started accounts on X for the IRS and the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) looking for ‘insights on finding and fixing waste, fraud and abuse’ at both agencies. On Monday, Musk reposted messages from both accounts.”
“Sens. Ron Wyden (D-Ore.) and Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.) on Monday wrote to acting IRS Commissioner Douglas O’Donnell, requesting information on access to the IDRS by DOGE and stating worries about possible privacy violations.”
Wyden and Warren are known for being two of the most progressive Senators in the Democrat caucus, and Pennsylvania voters might scratch their heads to see Fetterman associated with them.
Wyden, for his part, does have a history of working across the aisle on issues like surveillance, but Warren is a partisan warrior who has repeatedly lashed out at Trump for violating her leftist dogmas.
If Fetterman wants to be viewed as bipartisan, he is certainly allowed to criticize Trump or Musk if he feels it’s appropriate, but he should distance himself from people like Elizabeth Warren.
And he should ditch some of his extreme views that are toxic to the voters of Pennsylvania.
