Chuck Schumer unconditionally surrendered to President Trump in the latest government funding fight.
Schumer waved the white flag and provided the vote to break a filibuster on a six-month continuing resolution that freezes spending and puts no restrictions on the work of the Department of Government Efficiency to keep firing deep-state bureaucrats and closing down government agencies.
This six-month continuing resolution provides the runway for President Trump and the Republicans in Congress to negotiate a budget reconciliation bill that will codify the DOGE spending cuts and make good on President Trump’s promise to enact the largest tax cuts in history by the fall.
The Democrat base grows angrier by the day as they realize their elected officials in Congress are powerless to do much of anything as Elon Musk and DOGE take a chainsaw to big government and President Trump enacts his agenda.
Liberal rage reached its boiling point when Schumer bent the knee to Trump and capitulated on the continuing resolution.
Leading the outrage parade on the left was Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY).
“I think there is a deep sense of outrage and betrayal,” Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez ranted to the press.
Ocasio-Cortez ripped Schumer on CNN and on social media as a coward who lacked the spine to stand up to President Trump.
And Ocasio-Cortez’s constant presence pillorying Schumer won her admiration across the party and had many Democrats in Congress urging Ocasio-Cortez to primary Schumer when Schumer comes up for re-election in 2028.
“Privately, House Democrats are so infuriated with Schumer’s decision that some have begun encouraging her to run against Schumer in a primary, according to a Democratic member who directly spoke with Ocasio-Cortez about running at the caucus’ policy retreat. Multiple Democrats in the Congressional Progressive Caucus and others directly encouraged Ocasio-Cortez to run on Thursday night after Schumer’s announcement, this member said,” CNN exclusively reported.
But this mutiny had broad support.
The idea of Ocasio-Cortez mounting a primary challenge to Schumer won purchase beyond just the “Squad.”
Democrats in Trump districts who need to cater to swing voters also want Ocasio-Cortez to run in the primary against Schumer.
“The member said that Democrats in Leesburg were ‘so mad’ that even centrist Democrats were ‘ready to write checks for AOC for Senate,’ adding that they have ‘never seen people so mad,’” the CNN report continued.
When asked about a potential primary against Schumer, Ocasio-Cortez left the door wide open to such a possibility.
“There are members of Congress who have won Trump-held districts in some of the most difficult territory in the United States who walked the plank and took innumerable risks in order to defend the American people, in order to defend Social Security and Medicaid and Medicare,” Ocasio-Cortez stated. “Just to see Senate Democrats even consider acquiescing to Elon Musk, I think is a huge slap in the face. And I think there is a wide sense of betrayal if things proceed as currently planned.”
The Democrat Party is in disarray.
Democrats have no message beyond doubling down on unpopular positions like men in women’s sports and open borders.
And now the party is tearing itself apart in civil war because the base hates their leaders.
