Pope Leo has been very vocal about Trump’s immigration crackdown.
Border Czar Homan then stepped up.
And Tom Homan’s response was the last thing he expected.
As American Patriot Daily reports:
Pope Leo isn’t just critical of President Trump’s decision to go to war with Iran.
The Pope also spoke out against President Trump’s mass deportations, claiming that the administration treated illegal aliens inhumanely.
“They are human beings, and we have to treat human beings in a humanitarian way and not treat them worse than house pets or animals,” the pope told reporters during a press conference.
The Catholic Church has always been pro-migration.
Before he died early last year, Pope Francis also attacked President Trump’s immigration crackdown.
“That said, the act of deporting people who in many cases have left their own land for reasons of extreme poverty, insecurity, exploitation, persecution or serious deterioration of the environment, damages the dignity of many men and women, and of entire families, and places them in a state of particular vulnerability and defenselessness,” Francis wrote in February 2025.
Border Czar Tom Homan is a Catholic and addressed the Pope’s barbs at a Turning Point USA event where he repeated that he invited the Pope to accompany ICE on ride-alongs as they arrest illegal aliens for deportation.
“I’ll sit down and talk to him, because they’re talking about something they don’t understand,” Homan stated.
Homan turned around the Pope’s argument by pointing out that open borders are actually the most inhumane way to treat immigrants because open borders encourage illegal aliens to make the dangerous trek to America, where they face death, serious injury, and sexual assault at the hands of cartel human traffickers.
“An open border is the most inhumane thing you can do,” Homan added. “When you make that promise to the whole world, the most vulnerable people will give their life’s savings to the cartels to make that dangerous journey.”
Illegal immigration is down 97% since President Trump took office, and Homan argued that it saved lives as cartel thugs couldn’t rape women, abuse children, and kill migrants who paid them to smuggle them into America.
“President Trump has illegal immigration down 96.7% — about 97%. When 97% less people are coming, how many women aren’t being raped? How many children aren’t dying? How many pounds of fentanyl are not getting into killing Americans?” Homan continued.
“President Trump is a remarkable leader for this nation,” Homan concluded.
Securing the border and mass deportations are the centerpiece of President Trump’s agenda.
Nations have a right to control who enters their country, and there is nothing in Catholic Church teaching that demands a country throw open its border.
