There is more bad news on the way for the Democrat Party.
It could not come at a worse time.
And now a judge smacked a big-name Democrat with a ruling that changed everything.
Chicago far-left Mayor Lori Lightfoot made headlines for all the wrong reasons with a racist declaration that the city’s political press corps was too white and male.
Lightfoot stated that because of this she would grant interview requests to minority reporters.
“This is exactly why I’m being intentional about prioritizing media requests from POC reporters on the occasion of the two-year anniversary of my inauguration as mayor of this great city,” Lightfoot wrote on Twitter.
Judicial Watch sued on behalf of Daily Caller reporter Thomas Catenacci who had his interview requests turned down.
U.S. District Judge John Z. Lee issued a ruling that called Lightfoot’s press segregation scheme to account by ordering Mayor Lightfoot’s office to clarify if this policy was still in effect.
“We look forward to Mayor Lightfoot’s filing on Friday,” Judicial Watch attorney Michael Bekesha stated. “The Court is requiring the Mayor to file a statement under oath about whether her racially discriminatory policy still applies to Catenacci’s and the DCNF’s interview request. More than two weeks later, we still haven’t seen any evidence that it doesn’t.”
Catenacci celebrated the ruling explaining that it was a win for press freedom and equality under the law.
“There is no excuse for racial discrimination,” Catenacci exclaimed. “Every day that goes by without the Mayor granting my interview request because of my race violates my rights and tramples on the First Amendment.”
“I think that we shouldn’t live in a country where anyone is treated worse than anyone else or given opportunities that anyone else is otherwise given solely because of race,” Catenacci continued. “Like a lot of people out there, I was just really surprised that an elected official would do something like this.”
The Democrat Party base is very much in tune with the type of identity politics that Mayor Lightfoot practices.
But it did not prove popular with voters last November.
Donald Trump actually earned more votes from black and Hispanic voters in 2020 than he did in 2016.
Republicans flipped double-digit seats in the House of Representatives and swept every toss-up race.
A Democrat Party autopsy commissioned after the election found that the “defund the police message”—supported by Democrats like Lightfoot who proposed slashing 80 million dollars from the city’s police budget—cost the party in the election.
Democrats are facing pushback on every front as prominent members of the party put race and gender at the forefront of every conversation.
A federal judge smacking down Mayor Lightfoot for a racially biased press policy is just the latest example.
