A public stunt made Nancy Pelosi’s disrespect of fallen soldiers even worse.
Republican representatives slammed House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) for blocking them from reading the names of the 13 U.S. service members who were killed in Afghanistan on the House floor.
While Pelosi reportedly wasn’t willing to honor brave soldiers who were killed for doing heroic work, Pelosi was willing to wear Kente cloth and kneeled for eight minutes and 46 seconds in the Capitol Visitor Center to honor George Floyd, a man with a criminal history and a potentially lethal dose of fentanyl, who died in police custody.
Republicans say that Pelosi refused to read names of fallen service members in Afghanistan.
“We gaveled in, had a prayer, said the Pledge of Allegiance, took a moment of silence with pretty much all Republican veterans, then asked to be recognized to read names and bring up Afghanistan legislation,” said Rep. Brian Mast of Florida. “They did not acknowledge us, and just closed the House down.”
“House Democrats just refused to recognize Republican veterans on the House Floor to read the names of our fallen service members in Afghanistan. That’s how far our nation has fallen,” tweeted Rep. Greg Steube of Florida.
“How badly do Nancy Pelosi and the House Democrats want to cover up this Afghanistan debacle? They just blocked Members of Congress from reading the names of the service members who sacrificed their lives in Afghanistan last week. Don’t you think our military deserves better?” tweeted Rep. Carlos Gimenez of Florida.
Floyd was a criminal who was arrested nine times, including aggravated robbery with a deadly weapon, and while his death may be tragic it’s terrible that Pelosi would choose to honor him above the men and women who died while choosing to serve their country.
Those 13 service members are heroes.
The young widow of U.S. Army Staff Sgt. Ryan C. Knauss, one of 13 service members killed in a suicide bomb attack at Afghanistan’s Hamid Karzai International Airport in Kabul, said even if her husband had known the outcome “he would do it again.”
“For him, it’s the ultimate honor he could give back to his country,” she told WBIR. “To help those people and to know he was helping people, he would not be sorry. He would not regret it.”
Yet Pelosi couldn’t even take a moment out of the day to read the name of U.S. Army Staff Sgt. Ryan C. Knauss because it’s all about politics for Pelosi.
Afghanistan is a disaster for President Joe Biden and therefore Democrats are trying to ignore it and hope it goes away.
