The bad news continues to roll in for Democrats.
Joe Biden’s poll numbers are in a free fall and now one of his top allies is in deep trouble.
A rising star Democrat is about to be thrown out of office, and you won’t believe why.
California Democrat Governor Gavin Newsom is fighting for political survival.
Joe Biden won California by 30 points in 2020, but on September 14 Newsom faces a recall election that could remove him from office.
Polls show the race is a toss-up.
Democrats wonder how this can be.
It turns out Democrat voters in California – who vastly outnumber Republicans – are not motivated to turn out.
Even in this bastion of progressive politics, ominous signs for the Democratic Party are everywhere. A CBS News-YouGov poll last week found voters who cast ballots for Joe Biden were less likely than Trump supporters to be very closely following the recall — and less motivated to vote. In a Berkeley-IGS survey, registered Democrats and independent voters were nearly 30 percentage points less likely than Republicans to express a high level of interest in voting in the election.
The lack of enthusiasm is so concerning to Democrats that Gavin Newsom, the state’s Democratic governor, has been furiously working to yoke his main Republican opponent, Larry Elder, to Trump, while volunteers working with the progressive advocacy group Courage California texted voters a plea last week not to throw their mail ballots away.
Even CNN sounded the alarm with correspondent Kyung Lah reporting that Democrats in California grow more disillusioned with Newsom’s leadership by the day and plan to vote for the recall.
“Disappointed with the party in control with a supermajority of California state government, while problems grow, wildfires, drought, crime, cost of living, but the worst for them, homelessness, which has expanded through the pandemic now in neighborhoods across middle-class Los Angeles, including their own,” Lah reported on “The Lead.”
Ever since Newsom won re-election, life in California became more expensive while the quality of life declined.
California’s biggest cities operate as crime-infested homeless encampments where vagrants feel free to defecate in the streets and criminals loot stores in broad daylight.
Republicans barely qualify as a major party in California.
Democrats and independent voters vastly outnumber GOP voters.
But Gavin Newsom allowing crime and homelessness to run wild while also shutting down businesses and closing schools created a perfect storm for Republicans to seize the governor’s mansion.
That’s because as part of Newsom’s strategy to stay in office, Democrats discouraged any major candidate from running on the recall ballot to replace Newsom.
The ballot now features 46 candidates, 37 of which are Republicans.
Newsom and his allies thought if there were no palatable Democrats on the ballot to choose from, California Democrats would oppose the recall.
But the sight of homeless vagrants pooping on the sidewalks in front of closed businesses proved to be a breaking point.
And now conservative, pro-Trump talk show host Larry Elder may win the California governorship with as little as 20 percent of the vote.
