Nancy Pelosi has an Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez problem on her hands.
All Pelosi can do is hope the storm blows through and leaves as little political damage behind as possible.
That’s because Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez filmed one video that made every Democrat nervous.
In 2020, Democrats lost 15 seats in the House of Representatives in large part because Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and her fellow “Squad” members branded Democrats as the party of violent riots and defunding the police.
Republicans won every tossup race on the map last November because voters want law and order.
But Ocasio-Cortez hasn’t learned her lesson and is doubling down on the failed anti-police message.
In the wake of a jury convicting Officer Derek Chauvin on all counts in the death of George Floyd, Ocasio-Cortez couldn’t help herself but to blab on video about how Democrats want to destroy the institution of American policing.
During the trial, prosecutors took great pains to tell the jury this case was not the State of Minnesota against the police department, but that it was the State of Minnesota putting Derek Chauvin on trial.
Ocasio-Cortez threw that messaging out the window and told the world that merely convicting Derek Chauvin was just the first step in defunding the police and tearing down the American system.
“This isn’t justice,” Ocasio-Cortez claimed in a video posted to social media. “Justice is George Floyd going home to his family tonight… I don’t want this to be framed as the system working—b/c it’s not working. It’s really important that this verdict is not used as a replacement for policy change.”
Ocasio-Cortez expanded on her thoughts in a subsequent post on Twitter.
“That a family had to lose a son, brother and father; that a teenage girl had to film and post a murder, that millions across the country had to organize and march just for George Floyd to be seen and valued is not justice. And this verdict is not a substitute for policy change,” Ocasio-Cortez added.
Ocasio-Cortez was not the only Democrat to rip off the mask in the wake of the Chauvin verdict and reveal their true intention was to put America on trial and convict her guilty on the charge of being systemically racist.
Barack Obama echoed these anti-police and anti-sentiments in a statement released after the Chauvin jury revealed its guilty verdict.
“While today’s verdict may have been a necessary step on the road to progress, it was far from a sufficient one,” Obama exclaimed. “We cannot rest. We will need to follow through with the concrete reforms that will reduce and ultimately eliminate racial bias in our criminal justice system. We will need to redouble efforts to expand economic opportunity for those communities that have been too long marginalized.”
Like last summer, Democrats are getting caught up in the revolutionary zeal of their Black Lives Matter base.
But in 2020 Democrats misread the millions of people protesting, rioting, and looting as evidence that the public was with them.
Democrats paid a heavy price in down-ballot races for that miscalculation.
And now Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez is feeding the Republican Party ammunition to rerun the successful playbook in the 2022 midterms, an election where the Democrats are already facing historical headwinds.
