Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez is being hailed as the new face of the Democratic Party.
But while she makes ripples in Washington, D.C., she’s in massive trouble somewhere she least expected.
Ocasio-Cortez is now in huge trouble in her own backyard.
New York Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez stormed onto the political scene in 2018 with a message of making socialism – the ideology which destroyed the Soviet Union and most of eastern Europe – mainstream in American politics.
And she ended up winning a stunning primary victory in her heavily Democratic New York City Congressional District against a longtime Democratic establishment incumbent politician.
Since then, Ocasio-Cortez has been a lightning rod of attention for both the left and right, with liberals hailing her as the new face of the Democratic Party and a sign of the party’s increasingly tolerant embrace of socialism.
However, while Ocasio-Cortez may be an internet celebrity with millions of followers online, her own constituents seem to be souring on her.
The Daily Caller reports, “Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez’s approval rating is tanking as citizens voice frustration following Amazon’s decision to bail on a planned campus in the state, according to a poll published Monday.”
The poll shows that only 12% of New York respondents believe that Ocasio-Cortez was a “hero” for fighting back against the planned Amazon move to New York City.
Meanwhile, an overwhelming majority of respondents think that Amazon’s decision to move out of New York City was “bad for New York”.
The poll results were devastating for Ocasio-Cortez however.
“Who do New Yorkers blame? Well, there’s certainly blame enough to go around. More people think that Amazon, Governor Cuomo, Mayor de Blasio, the State Senate, and local Queens activists were villains in this saga than they were heroes. However, voters say the biggest villain was Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez,” reports the Sienna College poll.
While just 12% called Ocasio-Cortez a hero, 38% called her a “villain” for sabotaging the Amazon move.
It gets worse for Ocasio-Cortez.
Her favorability rating is underwater by a stunning 13 points, with just 31% viewing her favorably while a whopping 44% view her unfavorably. Independents also view her unfavorably by a margin of 2-1.
The results of this poll are nothing short of devastating for Ocasio-Cortez.
Even in her own backyard, people are beginning to turn away from her.
And all while she continues to indulge in her internet celebrity status the far left has hoisted upon her.
The poll could be a sign that Ocasio-Cortez is far less popular and well-liked than people expect.
And it could point out that her massive online following is an overinflated extension of her true level of support.
If these numbers continue to hold and New Yorkers continue to sour on Ocasio-Cortez, it wouldn’t be outside the realm of possibility to see her primaried one day, similar to how she herself managed to win office by unseating a Democratic incumbent.
Do you think that Ocasio-Cortez should be removed from office by her constituents?
