She thought she came out ahead.
She believed she led the Democrats to victory.
Now, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez is humiliated by these three words.
Almost immediately after Goya Foods CEO Robert Unanue offered his support of Trump’s presidency, the Democrats flew like vultures to social media.
They called for an immediate boycott of Goya products.
AOC led the charge, posting on her Twitter:
“Oh look, it’s the sound of me Googling ‘how to make your own Adobo.’”
She was immediately joined by thousands of other voices, all protesting Unanue’s praise of the President.
CNN went so far as to post this statement:
“The boycott of Goya is entirely warranted. Many Latinos are angry at Unanue, and they are sad and disappointed in him, too. His remarks reflect how out of touch CEOs can be to their primary consumers, and to the national mood.”
However, despite the vehement calls for a boycott, none surfaced.
In fact, Goya products were out of stock in many supermarkets.
And the cherry on top is the news that came earlier this week.
In response to the calls for a boycott, The United Bodegas of America (UBA) stated they will keep stocking Goya products.
UBA gathered publicly to release a statement condemning this boycott:
“Goya Foods employs over 5,000 people in the Tristate area, these are 5,000 of our family members that Goya is supporting. Goya is not just a brand, they’re an institutional family member. We will never turn our backs on those that have been there for all Latin America. Let’s raise and commend Goya Foods for all the good they have done, let’s NOT allow anyone to tell us what we can or can’t buy, Si Es Goya Tiene Que Ser Bueno. Let’s leave it at that.”
UBA provided a voice of reason amid the frantic chaos the Democrats attempted to raise.
They also brought to light the amazing work Goya is doing to help out during this pandemic.
As just one example, Goya donated over two million pounds of food to food banks across the nation to help aid those who have been severely impacted by COVID-19.
Perhaps most embarrassing to the Democrats, Unanue spoke out against the boycott, condemning the actions of the mob.
He rightly refused to apologize for his comments.
This led the mob to redouble their efforts to push a boycott, but they were shut down harshly again.
Now, with the UBA against them, and thousands of people calling them out, the Democrats and their mob have no leg to stand on.
UBA stands with Goya and all the people they employ.
In contrast, AOC claims to stand with workers, but her actions clearly tell a different story.
Her only goal is to “one-up” Trump and attempt to drag him down.
In doing so, she has proven she has no regard for the people she pretends to support.
She only supports the people when it is politically convenient, not when jobs are on the line and lives are at stake.
Going forward, we can only hope future leaders truly care about the people instead of politics.
