With Joe Biden serving as nothing more than a fading figurehead, Donald Trump is arguing that if Biden wins the election, anti-American socialists like Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez will call the shots.
The President just got some bad news on that front.
And it’s all because Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez had this surprising reaction to a big win over Trump.
Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez is the most high-profile elected official to champion Black Lives Matter’s signature policy proposal of defunding the police.
Donald Trump’s tried to frame the election as a choice between his message of law and order and the anarchy, murder, and mayhem the Democrats and Black Lives Matter will deliver to American cities by eliminating the police.
New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio thought he delivered Black Lives Matter a signature win by promising one billion dollars in cuts to the police budget and disbanding a unit of plainclothes police officers that kept the peace of city streets and in Central Park.
Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez blasted Mayor de Blasio as playing political games by moving money around and claiming he defunded the police.
Ocasio-Cortez said “defunding the police means defunding the police.”
“Defunding the police means defunding the police. It does not mean budget tricks or funny math. It does not mean moving school police officers from the NYPD budget to the Department of Education budget so that the exact same police remain in schools,” Ocasio-Cortez wrote in a statement.
Ocasio-Cortez called out Mayor de Blasio’s other attempts to claim he defunded the police without cutting the city’s police force funding.
“It does not mean counting overtime cuts as cuts, even as NYPD ignores every attempt by City Council to curb overtime spending and overspends on overtime anyways. it does not mean hiring more police officers while cutting more than $800M from NYC schools. If these reports are accurate, then these proposed ‘cuts’ to NYPD’s budget are a disingenuous illusion. This is not a victory. The fight to defund policies continues,” Ocasio-Cortez continued.
But Ocasio-Cortez achieving even incremental wins on defunding the police proved disastrous for New York City.
Over a nine-day span, 112 New Yorkers were killed or injured in 83 shootings.
Without the plainclothes police officers that maintain order and uniformed police backing off after facing hostile crowds that hurl bottles and other dangerous projectiles at them, residents are helpless and at the mercy of violent criminals that sense police have surrendered the streets to ruthless criminals.
Thanks to the push to defund and demonize the police, New York City resembles the violent and dangerous urban warzone that the city deteriorated into in the 1970s during its massive financial crisis that led to New York City declaring bankruptcy.
