Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez’s attack on Republicans completely backfired on her.
The lie she was trying to push was just too big to go unchecked.
Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez was humiliated at how her lie got completely destroyed.
On Twitter, Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.) criticized the Republican Party for not voting to raise the minimum wage.
Democrats have long been able to get away with saying whatever they want on social media but this time her tweet prompted a fact-check from Twitter.
“60% of workers report living paycheck-to-paycheck,” the Republican Party said in a tweet.
“And yet y’all still voted against raising the minimum wage,” Ocasio-Cortez responded.
Twitter added to her post that, “Readers added context they thought people might want to know,” noting that Democrats also opposed raising minimum wage.
“The minimum wage has not changed since 2009.” It noted that “In 2021, Congress voted on a bill to raise the minimum wage. – Passed 231-199 in the House. Opposed: 192 Rs, 8 Ds + one I. Three Rs supported. – Blocked 58-42 in the Senate. 7 Ds and one I joined all Rs to block the bill.”
In fact Democrats controlled Congress during the last vote to raise minimum wage and Ocasio-Cortez was mocked by critics.
“I REFUSE to believe that this woman has a degree in economics,” British political commentator Esther K tweeted.
PR guru Ellen Carmichael tweeted, “You’re an economic illiterate.”
“When/where have government price/wage controls ever worked, @AOC?” actor Adam Baldwin tweeted.
“It’s really difficult for me to believe any politician truly believes raising the minimum wage (thus accelerating inflation, raising the barrier to entry & forcing employers out of business) is really helping people,” political commentator Pardes Seleh tweeted. “Therefore I will just assume this is how politicians buy votes!”
The Libertarian Party responded, “We support a maximum wage of $0 for IRS and Federal Reserve employees. And $8 for you, just so you can pay @elonmusk for your blue checkmark.”
“Raising the minimum wage will cause more inflation,” a finance account tweeted. “The only way to get ahead is *creating* more value (Ie. WiFi money and exiting this scam system). When you raise income for the same positions it just raises prices of all basic goods since there was no increase in productivity.”
Raising minimum wage would make the inflation that Americans are suffering from worse.
Inflation has increased 7.1 percent over the past year.
President Joe Biden wildly claimed earlier in December that prices would come back down.
Biden said, “I hope by the end of next year we’re much closer, but I can’t make that prediction. I just — I’m convinced they’re not going to go up. I’m convinced they’re going to continue to go down.”
