Wyoming Congresswoman Liz Cheney picked a fight with Donald Trump.
Cheney is trying to run Donald Trump out of the Republican Party and out of American politics.
Now all hell broke loose when Liz Cheney said three words on Fox News.
Liz Cheney hoped impeachment would serve as the silver bullet allowing the Bush/McCain/Romney GOP establishment to take back control of the Republican Party.
Cheney went so far as to blame Donald Trump for the January 6 riot at the Capitol and used language that Nancy Pelosi and other Democrats used to promote impeaching Donald Trump for a second time.
Liz Cheney also worked with Pelosi by voting for the Democrats’ article of impeachment against President Trump.
Cheney’s bid to utilize impeachment to purge Donald Trump from the Republican Party failed when the Senate acquitted Trump after he left office.
Now that Trump emerged from impeachment with his political standing in the Republican Party intact, Trump is considering launching a comeback in the form of a 2024 presidential campaign.
Fox News host Neil Cavuto asked Cheney if she would support Trump if he won the party’s presidential nomination.
Cheney quickly responded that she would not.
After Cheney voted to impeach Trump, polls in Wyoming showed Cheney’s approval rating plummeted and that Cheney trailed a primary challenger by over 20 points.
Trump alluded to this reality in a statement he released shortly after Cheney’s comments where Trump mocked Cheney’s diminished political standing in her home state and promised to very shortly endorse one of the primary challengers running against Cheney.
Given Trump’s popularity with the GOP base, that endorsement could spell the end of Cheney’s congressional career.
