Barack Obama and Donald Trump engaged in a blood feud for around a decade.
But their rivalry took a strange turn.
And now Barack Obama admitted something about Donald Trump that no one saw coming.
Appearing on “The Daily Show,” Obama took another attempt to shift the Democrat Party away from the damaging position of supporting defunding the police ahead of the two Georgia runoff elections on January 5 that will decide control of the Senate.
Obama’s advice to Democrats ended up with praise for President Trump.
But Obama began by lauding the Black Lives Matter rioters that burned down buildings, looted businesses and maimed and killed anyone that tried to stand up to their lawless mayhem.
“Nothing made me more optimistic during a difficult year than the activism that we saw in the wake of George Floyd’s murder,” Obama began.
“I have consistently believed that their courage, activisms, media savvy, strategic resolve far exceeds anything I could’ve done at their age and I think has shifted the conversation in ways I would not have even imagined a couple of years ago,” Obama added.
Obama tried to drive home the point that he supports the goals of defunding the police, but that the cop-hating activists on the left needed to devise a better marketing strategy so as not to alienate voters.
“That particular slogan I think the concern is that there may be potential allies out there that you’d lose. And the issue always is: how do you get enough people to support your cause that you can actually institutionalize it and translate it into laws,” Obama added.
Obama gave examples of slogans that voters found more unifying.
Not surprisingly, the self-absorbed Obama cited his very own “Yes We Can” motto from 2008.
But Obama also held up Donald Trump’s “Make America Great Again” slogan as a unifying theme that attracted voters.
“Can we be precise with our language enough that people who might be persuaded around that particular issue to make a particular change that gets a particular result that we want. What’s the best way for us to describe that?” Obama concluded.
For years Democrats savaged “Make America Great Again” as a racist dog whistle meant to signal to white voters that President Trump wanted to drag America back to the days of Jim Crow and slavery.
But now the left’s self-proclaimed greatest communicator is singling out Donald Trump’s marketing slogan as the ideal of what liberal activists should strive for.
Democrats lost elections in the Senate, Congress and state Houses because their candidates marched with defund the police activists and tried to make common cause with these rioters.
Obama is trying to warn them off this dangerous path by changing their words, but not their agenda.
