Democrats are much more worried about the 2020 election than they let on.
Despite polls showing Joe Biden leading Donald Trump, the left understands the race is much closer, which led many of the party’s leading figures to promote conspiracy theories about Donald Trump sabotaging the vote.
Barack Obama told this insane lie about the post office that just blew up in his face.
The focus of the left’s misinformation campaign centers on the U.S. Postal Service.
For years, the U.S. Postal Service lost billions of dollars.
President Trump told Fox and Friends that over the last 12 years, the United States Postal Service ran 78 billion dollars in the red.
His administration has tried to increase efficiency and cut costs by engaging in routine practices that the left now spins as the President trying to use the post office to undermine the ability of voters to cast ballots by mail, which Trump says will lead to rampant fraud and abuse.
Former President Barack Obama hyped this conspiracy theory about the President removing mailboxes and other acts of supposed sabotage in an appearance on former campaign manager David Plouffe’s podcast.
“What we’ve seen in a way that is unique to modern political history is a president who is explicit in trying to discourage people from voting,” Obama falsely claimed. “What we’ve never seen before is a president say, ‘I’m going to try to actively kneecap the postal service to encourage voting and I will be explicit about the reason I’m doing it.'”
This is all a lie.
From 2011 to 2016, the Obama administration removed 14,000 mailboxes.
A 2009 report found that in the last 20 years, the government retired 200,000 mailboxes.
Postal Service spokeswoman Kimberly Frum told The Hill that removing mailboxes was routine in areas with little mail traffic.
“Historically, mailboxes have been removed for lack of use and installed in growth areas,” Frum explained. “Relocating low-use boxes to high traffic areas such as shopping centers, business parks, grocery stores, etc. for increased customer convenience.”
“When a collection box consistently receives very small amounts of mail for months on end, it costs the Postal Service money in fuel and workhours for letter carriers to drive to the mailbox and collect the mail,” Frum added. “Removing the box is simply good business sense in that respect. It is important to note that anyone with a residential or business mailbox can use it as a vehicle to send outgoing mail.”
A viral photograph of a truck loaded up with mailboxes spread like wildfire on social media leading to liberals pointing to it as evidence Donald Trump ordered the post office to disrupt mail-in voting.
Postal Service spokesman Steve Doherty debunked this viral conspiracy theory with a statement to Boston.com.
“These trucks are on the street daily,” Doherty stated. “They’re part of our field maintenance fleet.”
“This is why you may see one box on a corner that previously may have had two or three side by side,” Doherty added. “With declining letter volumes, we try to keep the system efficient.”
“In short – this is all routine maintenance,” Doherty explained. “There’s no effort underway to reduce collection boxes.”
Barack Obama and his allies on the left have one big reason to promote this conspiracy theory.
Whenever Republicans win an election, Democrats invent a conspiracy theory to delegitimize the election.
If Donald Trump wins a second term, Democrats are sure to claim that the President manipulated the post office to rig the vote.
