Barack Obama knew that Joe Biden was putting him in a hazardous position.
But he didn’t think it would end this badly.
Barack Obama never expected to be backstabbed by his own party in such a shocking way.
The Democratic Party has become radical in a shockingly short amount of time.
Former President Barack Obama’s words from the past sound comparatively moderate by today’s standards.
As a senator in 2006, Obama made it clear that we must secure our borders. “Those who enter the country illegally and those who employ them disrespect the rule of law, and they are showing disregard for those who are following the law. We simply cannot allow people to pour into the United States undetected, undocumented (and) unchecked, and circumventing the line of people who are waiting patiently, diligently and lawfully to become immigrants in this country,” Obama told a crowd.
Between 2009 and 2015, Obama’s administration had removed more than 2.5 million people through immigration orders, hitting a record high of 409,849 in fiscal 2012.
His policies on illegal immigration have offended immigration activists who are working to keep a school from being named after Obama as Waukegan Community Unit School District No. 60 struggles to rename Thomas Jefferson Middle School.
The school board is currently debating a proposal to rename Thomas Jefferson Middle School because Jefferson owned slaves despite opposing it in principle and calling it a “moral depravity” and a “hideous blot.” President Jefferson had signed into act a bill approved by Congress to prohibit the importation of slaves into any port or place within the jurisdiction of the United States and worked to ban slavery in the Northwest Territories.
Yet many in the community don’t feel like Obama is pure enough to replace Thomas Jefferson.
“We feel that Barack Obama disserviced us. He denied us. And he didn’t stop the deportations the way he promised us,” said local activist Julie Contreras at a protest outside the meeting’s doors.
She continued, “If you’re removing the name of Thomas Jefferson, one oppressor, the name of Obama is another oppressor. And our families do not want to see that name.”
“I will not be part of renaming a school after someone who did not and does not represent the undocumented community,” Waukegan school board member Edgar Castellanos said at a board meeting, according to ABC 7 Chicago.
“That’s millions of families that were affected and separated, many of whom reside right here in Waukegan. The fear that many of my friends faced of never seeing their parents again after coming home from school still resonates with me,” Oscar Arias told WBBM NewsRadio.
