Barack Obama is back in the political spotlight.
And it is just in time for the 2020 Presidential campaign.
Barack Obama reappeared to say the one word that changed everything for Donald Trump.
In the last couple of weeks, Barack Obama has resurfaced.
He’s been making the rounds, giving speeches, meeting with world leaders, giving interviews and lecturing Democrats on infighting.
This new activity by Obama has political pundits wondering what is next for this community organizer president.
One pundit went so far as trying to concoct a scenario that would put Obama back in the Oval Office.
This, of course, is not possible because of the 22nd Amendment, however, it does open the conversation about Obama as a potential vice presidential, Senatorial or even House candidate.
The other option for Obama is to remain on the outside and become the next kingmaker of the Democrat Party.
This seems the most likely path as running for Senate or House would have less power than being the most recent Democrat president.
And Barack Obama has always shown an ability to get his name out there, even when he is not at the top of the ticket.
Just recently Obama, who has long been known for mentioning himself in speeches, broke a new record and mentioned himself 467 times in one speech.
And Vanity Fair just ran a long fluff piece on Obama titled “Barack Obama is Quietly Getting Into the 2020 Race.”
The sub-headline of the article is telling all by itself; “The former president plots his return –as Democratic kingmaker.”
The article goes on to say:
“Behind the scenes, however, Obama has been quietly re-entering Democratic politics, asserting his role as presidential kingmaker ahead of the 2020 election.”
Obama who has always been an amazing self-promoter is also in complete control of his image and personal story, making him the perfect kingmaker for the Democrats.
Vanity Fair continues:
“He will almost certainly emerge as a party kingmaker, whether he covets the role or not.”
However, even though Obama has said he will not get involved in the 2020 presidential race until after the party has coalesced around one candidate, he has already started to talk to the early candidates and certainly has his favorites.
He is still very close with his Vice President Joe Biden and reportedly has spent a bit of time talking to Bernie Sanders, Elizabeth Warren and his close friend Deval Patrick the former Governor of Massachusetts.
According to some close to Obama, these meetings have run long, and Obama talks both deep philosophy and brass tacks campaigning.
There is also a growing rumor that this king-making role is in actuality setting up Michelle Obama for either a US Senate run or even a White House run of her own.
While certainly not a sure thing, she has less baggage than Hillary Clinton had and is more likable than Hillary.
As Democrats search for both their new identity and a candidate who can beat Donald Trump, don’t rule out the Obamas as major power brokers, and possibly candidates themselves.
We will keep you updated on this fast-moving story.
