Barack Obama felt secure in the fact that Donald Trump would be defeated in 2020.
That false sense of security evaporated in just one night.
Now Barack Obama got hit with this rude awakening about the 2020 Presidential Election that just ruined his life.
There is a general consensus across the political spectrum that the first Democrat Presidential debate was a disaster for Joe Biden.
The former Vice President stumbled over his words, looked lost on stage and looked like a past his prime Major League Baseball pitcher scuffing around on the mound trying to deal with the realization that he lost several miles per hour off his fastball.
One poll even showed Biden’s support post-debate plunging ten points.
Biden left the event a wounded frontrunner and his rivals smelled blood in the water.
Former Vice President Biden is the Democrat frontrunner because two groups of voters overwhelmingly support him – blacks and voters over 50.
The group Biden and his campaign most worry about is black voters.
In 2008 Hillary Clinton entered the race with the vast majority of black voters supporting her because they thought she was the best chance to win.
But once Barack Obama won Iowa he became viable and black voters abandoned Hillary Clinton in South Carolina and the Democrat Presidential primary was essentially over.
Pundits judged California Senator Kamala Harris and New Jersey Senator Cory Booker – both black – to have turned in strong performances.
One national poll even showed Harris’ support doubling to 12 percent in the aftermath of her takedown of Biden for bragging about working with pro-segregation Democrats in the 1970s.
Biden sought to avoid Clinton’s fate and cut off any chance of s stampede of black voters to one of his rivals by leaning into his tenure as Barack Obama’s Vice President.
Appearing at a forum for racist and anti-Semitic Reverend Jesse Jackson’s Rainbow Push Coalition Biden took Jackson’s advice and placed heavy emphasis on his eight years as the first black President’s loyal Vice President.
“What I said to him in our meeting was that people who were proud of the relationship with Barack and all of that — what came out last night is he’s been on the side of state’s rights. Doesn’t make him a bad guy but we’re on different teams,” Jackson told reporters. “What we fought for was against state’s rights. I said: ‘You must be very clear, just like you made an adjustment on the Hyde amendment, very clear. So he’s very clear on his work with Barack.”
Obama praised Biden when he entered the race – but notably did not endorse him.
Now former President Obama’s time in office is being used as a crutch by a candidate he may not actually support.
Biden playing the Obama card so early in the race shows that Biden was badly damaged by the debate and that despite all the media hype, the former Vice President was nothing more than a paper tiger frontrunner.
