There are big changes happening in Trump’s administration.
With the midterm elections coming up things are only going to get crazier.
And a new possible challenger to Trump in 2020 just emerged, and you won’t believe who it is.
A Trump Administration Shake-Up
One crazy story dominated the airwaves on Tuesday.
Nikki Haley resigned from her post as U.N. Ambassador.
She will exit at the end of the year.
This news evoked different emotions from many on the right.
Hardline Trump supporters like Ann Coulter happily accepted it.
Coulter has long been critical of Haley, even once saying Trump should deport her.
Indeed, Haley has never been a champion, or even a supporter, of Trump’s America First policies.
On issues like immigration, she supports increases in open borders and mass migration.
Immigration was her main issue with Trump during the 2016 election.
She urged Republicans to reject the “angriest” voices on the immigration issue, tacitly attacking then-candidate Trump.
And she carried the same beliefs into her new job as U.N. Ambassador, attacking Trump measures like his travel ban.
This garnered strong praise from the NeverTrump forces, who were devastated by her departure.
But while many are devastated, many are finding a silver lining.
The Last Hope For NeverTrumpers
While the NeverTrump movement is nearly dead, they still have true believers.
Those believers are the neoconservative wing of the Republican Party.
While they generally lean closer to Trump on many issues, they can’t stand many of his top issues.
They are in favor of open borders policies, and of unfettered free trade deals.
Those are issues Trump is taking on with great results.
But those forces are too stubborn to see that and are still looking for a way to make him a one-term president.
That’s where Nikki Haley comes in.
Within minutes of her announcement, NeverTrumpers began calling on her to run against Trump in 2020.
Those calls were quickly squashed when Haley said she wasn’t going to run.
But that isn’t stopping the rumor mill from running rampant.
CNN Makes The Case For Haley
Outlets like CNN and the Washington Post quickly began explaining how Haley could be a real challenger.
Because after all, she’s still a popular name.
With Trump being the one who appointed her, his supporters like her.
But the anti-Trump wing of the party still stands with her because of her resistance against Trump.
On issues like immigration, trade, and foreign policy, she has fired back at Trump many times.
The anti-Trump forces in the Republican Party took notice, seeing her as an independent voice.
All it will take is Trump angering Haley for her to become a full-on resistance fighter.
But this time it will be outside resistance.
That might mean a challenge in 2020.
And even if she doesn’t challenge him then, she could run in 2024.
If elected she would surely work to roll-back many of the more populist positions championed by Trump.
Could She Win The Senate?
But the White House isn’t her only possible battlefield.
Sen. Lindsey Graham is up for re-election in 2024 in her state of South Carolina.
With Graham becoming a surprising hero to Trump supporters, she may gun for his seat.
South Carolina already elected her to statewide office as governor once, so she knows how to win.
