More people are announcing races against Trump every day.
The field is getting crowded.
And nobody expected the latest person who is challenging him, and he’s the only one with more money than Trump.
The 2020 Field
More and more people are joining the 2020 field.
Many Americans are convinced Trump is going down.
So there’s nothing a Democrat would rather do than challenge Trump.
The left will look at whoever beats him as a hero.
So because of that, the field is crowded.
The most probable challengers are Bernie Sanders, Joe Biden, and Elizabeth Warren.
But there are other wildcard candidates.
Of the wildcards, there are none more shocking than Michael Bloomberg.
The former New York Mayor, who has at times been a Republican, Democrat, and Independent, is considering a 2020 run.
But for a 2020 run, he will be a Democrat to give him the best chance to take down Trump.
If he runs, he has some advantages and disadvantages.
His Advantages Against Trump
The biggest advantage Bloomberg has is money.
While Trump is the richest president in history, Bloomberg has a lot more money.
Trump’s net worth is around $3 billion, while Michael Bloomberg’s is over $50 billion.
Considering that the total money spent during the 2016 general election is around $2 billion which is a huge advantage.
While Trump could self-fund much of his campaign, it eventually got too expensive.
Bloomberg can truly self-fund an entire campaign and still have plenty of money in the bank.
This gives him a huge advantage.
But it isn’t his only advantage.
Bloomberg is one of the few people in New York ever to get to a similar status as Trump.
But Bloomberg has pretty close to the same status.
Trump is more well-known without a doubt.
But Bloomberg has similar credentials in New York.
Bloomberg also has crossover potential.
Considering that he has never been loyal to one party he has a lot of potential support from different groups.
His Disadvantages Against Trump
But while there are some advantages, there are quite a few disadvantages.
Most notable is his record as mayor of New York.
Bloomberg has a reputation as a nanny-state supporter.
Forcing the infamous “Big Gulp Ban” into law he has more enemies than friends on that.
While the ban has higher-than-average support in New York, it doesn’t elsewhere.
New York became a laughing stock to much of the world.
And the “Big Gulp Ban” became something Bloomberg will never live down.
On top of that, Bloomberg is a major supporter of far-left policies.
He is a mega-donor to gun control causes.
On that issue, he spends tens of millions of dollars a year.
And the groups he supports, in turn, help anti-gun Democrats.
Along with that, Bloomberg also regularly donates to Democrats.
That isn’t much of a problem considering that he’s running as a Democrat.
But it does make it hard for him to claim to be independent.
