The Democrat race for president is heating up.
It seems that with every day that goes by, things only get crazier in the clown car of candidates.
And Chuck Schumer just smacked a 2020 Democrat with career-ending news.
For decades, Democrats have been fending off claims that they want to confiscate firearms.
They have adamantly denied any allegations that they want to take guns from law-abiding citizens, at least while speaking publicly.
But Democrat presidential candidate Robert Francis “Beto” O’Rourke recently decided to come out publicly admitting that yes, he wants to confiscate firearms.
In his most recent debate, he boldly stated that, “Hell yes we are going to take your AR-15, your AK-47.”
He then doubled down, making it clear he means gun confiscation by answering with a bold “yes” after CNN asked him directly if he supports forcefully confiscating guns from law-abiding gun owners.
Not only that, but he then began selling a shirt with the statement “Hell yes we’re going to take your AR-15” written in bold font.
This is a stark contrast from O’Rourke just a year ago who told a radio host that, “If you own a gun, keep that gun. Nobody wants to take it away from you — at least I don’t want to do that.”
His admission is one that many Democrats are furious about.
And among them seemingly is Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer, who denies the fact that any other Democrat besides O’Rourke supports the idea.
According to Justin Murphy of the Rochester Democrat & Chronicle in New York, Schumer stated that, “I don’t know of any other Democrat who agrees with Beto O’Rourke, but it’s no excuse not to go forward.”
Schumer is either ignorant, or is willfully lying in that statement.
The reality is that O’Rourke is far from alone.
In fact, Kamala Harris and Cory Booker, who both serve alongside Schumer in the Senate, and are running for president, support the idea.
They both have publicly stated that they support mandatory gun buybacks, with Booker admitting that those who don’t comply will be “thrown in jail.”
In the end, that’s what these “mandatory gun buybacks” are about.
First off, the government never owned the firearms they are buying to begin with.
And if somebody doesn’t comply, the government will forcefully seize the guns from them.
This is all-out authoritarianism.
And going into the 2020 election, the last thing the Democrat Party needs is to have such extreme positions tied to them.
So it isn’t surprising that Schumer is trying to paint O’Rourke as some sort of outlier.
But the reality is that his position is far from fringe in the party.
After all, since making his support of gun confiscation clear, O’Rourke’s polling numbers have been increasing.
In recent weeks he has been hurting badly in the polls, putting him on the verge of ending his campaign.
So he clearly understands he needs to take drastic action, and taking on taboo positions that Democrats are too afraid to outright state is his strategy.
