This answer should have been a layup.
Instead, Chuck Schumer went running for his life.
And Chuck Schumer gave a jaw-dropping answer to a simple question about Joe Biden that you won’t believe.
Elected officials stick by a president from their party through thick and thin.
Voters from that party usually strongly approve of the president they voted for and it can be a political death sentence for an official to create distance between themselves and that president.
But America has not seen a president like Joe Biden in decades – or perhaps ever.
Biden is 79 years old and experiencing cognitive decline.
Biden’s also failed domestically – inflation, crime, the border, the economy, and gas prices just to name a few – as well as internationally – the botched withdrawal from Afghanistan, failure to deter Russia from invading Ukraine, and Communist China continues to send strong signals that it will soon launch an invasion of Taiwan.
Democrats recognize that swing voters will see Biden as a senile incompetent far past his prime which is why the Real Clear Politics polling average shows Donald Trump leading Biden.
Now that Democrats see Joe Biden is unelectable they want to get rid of him.
A CNN poll found 74 percent of Americans do not want Joe Biden to run for re-election.
When reporters asked Chuck Schumer if Biden should run for re-election Schumer only said that he would endorse Biden if Biden decided to run again.
“I have said if he runs, I’ll support him,” Schumer answered.
But that wasn’t the question.
The question was if Schumer thought Biden should run for re-election.
House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer also dodged giving a straight answer as to if he thought Joe Biden should run for re-election.
“We have done some extraordinary work for the American people, starting with the [American] Rescue Plan…President Biden needs to be out talking about those accomplishments,” Hoyer began.
“He’s a good communicator,” Hoyer added. “He’s a person who gets the pain of the people and their concerns and their vision and their hopes and their fears. He ought to be out there with all of us.”
But when pressed as to if he thought Biden should run for re-election Hoyer claimed it was not yet time to make that decision.
“I don’t think it’s timely. And I think getting into this game this early is not very productive. He’s the president of the United States, I think he’s a good president of the United States. I supported him for president. I think he’s doing a good job,” Hoyer concluded.
Democrats like Schumer and Hoyer know Biden is a dead duck if he runs for re-election.
And their refusal to say Biden should seek a second term gives it all away.
