Republicans promised to stand firm.
But Mitch McConnell waved the white flag of surrender.
Chuck Schumer gloated over Republicans selling out Trump in one huge fight.
For months RINO Mitch McConnell huffed and puffed about how if Democrats wanted to pass trillions in new socialist welfare spending along party lines using the budget reconciliation process, Democrats would have to raise the debt ceiling and add trillions to the national debt using the same mechanism.
Republicans believed that with an October 18 deadline to raise the debt ceiling it could cause the Democrats’ socialist spending spree to collapse as swing state Democrats grew skittish about voting for trillions in new taxes and spending combined with trillions in new debt.
But on the eve of the deadline McConnell blinked and folded after Schumer bluffed about nuking the filibuster.
West Virginia Democrat Joe Manchin and Arizona Democrat Kyrsten Sinema opposed altering the filibuster to accommodate the debt ceiling but McConnell – as usual – folded without putting up any fight.
“We’ve reached an agreement,” Chuck Schumer crowed in a speech on the Senate floor. “Our hope is to get this done as soon as today.”
Before the McConnell-led surrender, Donald Trump urged Republicans to reject McConnell’s capitulation.
“Republican Senators, do not vote for this terrible deal being pushed by folding Mitch McConnell. Stand strong for our Country. The American people are with you!” a Trump statement read.
Even RINOS like Lindsey Graham – that McConnell can always count on to sell out conservatives and vote with Democrats – ripped McConnell waving the white flag.
“I’m upset with us, because we had a strategy to make them pay a price to raise the debt ceiling, and we blinked,” Graham told Fox News.
“I don’t understand why we [Republicans] are folding here,” a statement from Senator Graham added. “For two months Republicans have been saying Democrats want to spend $3.5 trillion without any Republican input. If they are going to do that — they need to raise the debt ceiling on their own. This is just a mistake.”
McConnell rolling over on the debt ceiling fight means that Democrats now have a clean runway to pass trillions upon trillions of dollars in socialist welfare spending.
Before McConnell tapped out, the debt ceiling increase was linked to the socialist spending bills.
Now McConnell allowed Schumer to link the debt ceiling increase to a government funding bill and RINOs like McConnell never support shutting the government down so Republicans will likely surrender again in two months and cave in to all of Schumer’s demands.
Establishment Republicans like Mitch McConnell that refuse to fight the Democrats created the opening for Donald Trump in 2016.
McConnell lying down like a dog and quitting right at the climax of the debt ceiling fight will ensure that Republican voters stay loyal to Trump.
