President Trump is no friend to CNN.
He isn’t afraid to challenge them when need be.
And now CNN is red with rage at one thing Trump just did.
On the campaign trail, the media, with CNN at the lead, did everything in their power to stop Trump.
They painted him as a racist, an incompetent joke of a candidate.
But the American people saw right through their claims.
His election is historic, largely because it proves how much less power the media has nowadays.
Historically, the only way Presidents have been able to get their message out is through the media.
And that requires them to go through their filter.
So instead of the media covering what a candidate actually believes, they can spin it however they want.
But Trump can instead talk directly to his supporters, largely through his massively popular account on Twitter.
That’s why he can afford to snub the media, as he does regularly.
And just this week he did one thing that may be his most drastic move yet.
In an unprecedented move, Trump is canceling the holiday party hosted by the White House for members of the media.
While it may be a big move, it isn’t extremely surprising.
Trump has already been refusing to attend the White House Correspondent’s Dinner.
This cancellation is due to the contentious relationship between Trump and the media.
While the past year has included many dozens of tense moments with the media, it likely comes down to a recent confrontation with CNN’s Jim Acosta.
At the first press conference after the midterm elections, Trump got into a heated confrontation with Acosta, which ended with Acosta putting his hands on a White House intern.
The confrontation began after Acosta challenged the President on his claim that the illegal migrant caravan is an invasion.
But instead of simply asking him about the claim, Acosta directly told President Trump he is wrong in his claim.
After a drawn-out back and forth, Trump unloaded on Acosta.
“CNN should be ashamed of itself having you working for them. You are a rude, terrible person. You shouldn’t be working for CNN,” Trump told Acosta. “The way you treat Sarah Huckabee is horrible. The way you treat other people are horrible. You shouldn’t treat people that way.”
That statement came in response to Acosta being asked to relinquish the microphone.
Instead of following the request, he put his hands on a White House intern trying to do her job and bring the microphone to the next reporter.
After this confrontation, Acosta had his White House press pass revoked.
That revocation was short-lived due to a lawsuit filed by CNN.
But the press pass being returned does nothing to heal the relationship between the two, who have butted heads since Trump was on the campaign trail.
