Cory Booker is running for President of the United States.
And Ilhan Omar is making it hard for Democrats this election cycle.
But what Cory Booker said about Ilhan Omar will leave you fuming.
The Omar anti-Semitic controversy has fractured the Democratic party.
In her tweets, she’s accused American-Jewish relationships summed up as nothing more than “all about the Benjamins baby,” a phrase used about $100 bills. Critics condemned the tweet, saying Omar was using it to reference a stereotype about Jewish Americans.
But she didn’t stop there.
In a tweet soon after, Omar targeted the American Israel Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC), saying it was funding the Republican support for Israel.
She not only received Republican backlash but also from her own party.
She’s even gone so far as suggesting Jews have “dual loyalty” in the case for U.S. and Israel.
“Accusing Jews of harboring dual loyalty has a long, violent, sordid history,” said Steve Hunegs, executive director of the Jewish Community Relations Council of Minnesota and the Dakotas.
“It’s the standard fare of [then-Ku Klux Klan leader] David Duke. It’s difficult and dangerous because it evokes the Jews as the malevolent other, conspiring against society.”
Nancy Pelosi and her Democratic colleagues responded to the Omar controversy by taking floor action with a resolution condemning all hate.
The resolution never mentioned Omar by name. In fact, Pelosi said she sees herself in Rep. Ilhan Omar.
According to an interview with Rolling Stone, Pelosi said, “So what I see, and I say this to them: I was you. I used to carry the [protest] signs pushing strollers. … And as an advocate, relentless, persistent, dissatisfied always,” she continued.
“But when you cross over the threshold and come to Congress, you can bring those enthusiasms, those priorities, your knowledge, your vision, your plan. But you have to want to get results. You have to get results. Then, you were trying to impact others making decisions.”
The fact that the most powerful Democrat in the country said she sees herself in an anti-Israel representative will make anyone’s head explode.
But they are becoming the anti-Israel party.
And the Omar controversy isn’t stopping with Nancy Pelosi.
Cory Booker held a press conference, announcing the release of a new criminal justice reform bill.
The bill itself received very little attention, but he did make headlines with how he responded to a question about Ilhan Omar.
When a reporter asked Booker about “the controversy surrounding Congresswoman Omar….” Booker immediately snapped and interrupted her.
“So, we can do off…the off-topic questions when we finish,” a stuttering Booker said. “I will happily sit and stand and talk with you about that but is there anything about this piece of legislation that is out there?”
No reporter wanted to ask about his new piece of legislation, so Booker abruptly ended the press conference.
You can watch the exchange here:
The fact that Cory Booker refused to go on record about where he stands regarding Omar’s latest strings of controversy should make your jaw drop.
He’s a leading contender for the presidential nomination.
And it’s likely Omar will continue to be a thorn in the side for Democrats as she continues crazy remarks about Jews.
Democrats like Nancy Pelosi and Cory Booker avoiding any real condemnation of Omar will make Democrats suffer in the polls and with public opinion.
But one thing is for certain: President Trump was right when he said Democrats are becoming the anti-Israel party.
