Joe Biden has a huge change that he wants to make in America.
But it’s already looking like a huge failure.
A top Democrat made a confession that made Biden red in the face.
President Joe Biden said on Thanksgiving that he wants to destroy the Second Amendment by banning “semi-automatic” firearms.
“I’m sick and tired of these shootings. We should have much stricter gun laws,” Biden told reporters. “Look, the idea that we’re not enforcing red-flag laws, period, just based on knowledge, not on parents saying or a loved one saying you should arrest this person now for his own sake, is ridiculous.
“The idea — the idea we still allow semiautomatic weapons to be purchased is sick,” Biden continued. “It’s just sick. It has no, no social redeeming value. Zero. None. Not a single, solitary rationale for it except profit for the gun manufacturers.”
Biden has previously called for banning any semi-automatic firearms, even handguns.
“The idea you need a weapon that can have the ability to fire 20, 30, 40, 50, 120 shots from that weapon, whether it’s a, whether it’s a 9mm pistol or whether it’s a rifle, is ridiculous,” Biden said during a CNN town hall event last summer. “I’m continuing to push to eliminate the sale of those things, but I’m not likely to get that done in the near term.”
But Sen. Chris Murphy (D-CT) admitted that Biden does “probably not” have the votes to pass gun control laws on CNN’s “State of the Union” Sunday.
“I’m glad that President Biden is going to be pushing us to take a vote on an assault weapons ban,” Murphy said. “The House has already passed it. It’s sitting in front of the Senate. Does it have 60 votes in the Senate right now? Probably not. But let’s see if we can try to get that number as close to 60 as possible. If we don’t have the votes, then we will talk…and maybe come back next year with maybe an additional senator and see if we can do better.”
“President Biden is right,” Murphy continued. “If we passed an assault weapons ban, we would see less mass shootings in this country. Yes, there are already tens of thousands of assault weapons on the street. Nobody’s talking about taking those weapons away from individuals. We’re just talking about stopping new sales.
“But if you look at some of the most high-profile mass shootings in the last couple of years, many of those mass shooters bought the weapon just days before carrying out the crime,” he added. “And so, if those weapons were no longer commercially available, only in possession of those who had bought them previously, I think a lot of mass shootings would have been prevented.”
