Democrats are no stranger to being caught in lies.
They are the least trusted party in American politics based on that alone.
And a Democrat just got caught in a big lie that could destroy his career.
In the state of Texas, running as a Democrat against Ted Cruz probably isn’t a good idea.
But for Rep. Beto O’Rourke, it is his current goal in life and one that some believe he can pull off.
He has run a non-conventional campaign in which he has traveled across the state, campaigning in every small town across the way instead of following the more traditional method of visiting high-value districts that have a larger benefit for the campaign.
In doing so he has galvanized Democrats across the country into supporting his campaign.
But while Democrats are excited, the people of Texas don’t seem to be showing it. Recent polling shows Ted Cruz with a very sizable lead.
Cruz has the type of lead that is almost never disproven on election night.
But despite that, O’Rourke is pushing forward, attempting to prove that he should replace the highly popular Cruz.
In his pitch to voters, he makes a lot of grandiose claims. One of those claims is that he will never accept any money from political action committees (PACs).
Even before running for U.S. Senate he has touted that claim, saying that he is “one of two members of Congress out of 535 that takes no corporate cash, no political action committee money.”
But while he says he won’t accept PAC money in order to gain votes, campaign finance filings by the Federal Election Commission (FEC) says differently.
According to the FEC, since he has taken office in Congress, J Street PAC has raised over $170,000 on his behalf. J Street PAC is an extreme anti-Zionist group which many perceive as anti-Semitic.
In response to this, a spokesman for Sen. Ted Cruz blasted O’Rourke, stating that if “O’Rourke does believe that PAC support is corrupting, then he should immediately return the $172,285 raised for him by J Street PAC.”
It does not appear that O’Rourke has responded to these claims made against him, which isn’t surprising.
Democrats love to blast money in politics while benefiting from those they are blasting.
Hillary Clinton, in particular, is known for this. During the 2016 election, she pledged to fight for campaign finance reform to curb what she called “big money” in politics. But while publicly stating these things she was benefiting off of hundreds of millions of dollars being spent by outside groups to support her candidacy.
Donald Trump had less than half the amount of outside money that Hillary Clinton had, yet she and the Democrats tried to paint Trump as the big money candidate, simply due to his personal wealth.
This is a campaign tactic from Democrats across the country; say one thing and do another.
For Rep. O’Rourke, this being exposed could be devastating in his campaign if he hopes to get close to beating Cruz. He is already in an uphill battle, and this lie simply makes that hill a little steeper.
Do you think Ted Cruz will win re-election against Beto O’Rourke?
