During his time in office, President Donald Trump has exceeded many of his supporter’s expectations.
Despite this, Democrats are looking for any excuse possible to impeach him.
And a Democrat Congressman just moved forward with a last-ditch plan to impeach President Trump.
Last week, President Donald Trump made waves when he pardoned conservative author Dinesh D’Souza. Trump felt that D’Souza had been unfairly treated by the government after being prosecuted for a campaign finance violation by the Federal Election Commission (FEC).
Now, Democrat Congressman Steve Cohen of Tennessee believes that President Donald Trump should be impeached for it. Cohen believes that Trump obstructed justice by pardoning D’Souza and that the “resolution, according to the Federalist Papers, is impeachment.”
It isn’t surprising that a Democrat would be so upset about Trump’s decision. The prosecution of D’Souza has been highly politicized by the left since the first allegations of wrongdoing were dropped against him.
In 2012, D’Souza, in an effort to support Wendy Long, who was running for U.S. Senate in New York, asked two of his friends to donate $10,000 to her campaign. While that act in itself is legal, D’Souza broke the law when he later reimbursed them for the donations.
While D’Souza did break the law, which he has acknowledged, he did not do it intentionally, or with malicious intent. Historically, one of those two requirements was required for the FEC to prosecute someone for a violation. Despite this, he was vigorously pursued and ultimately given five years’ probation.
It is popularly believed that the only reason D’Souza was prosecuted was because of his fierce opposition to Barack Obama, largely displayed in his popular books and documentaries. This is likely true, considering the fact that the decision to go after FEC violations is often arbitrary.
Left-wing comedian Rosie O’Donnell was recently caught exceeding campaign finance limits on five different occasions, in five different jurisdictions.
While it is hard to know if she did it knowingly, or with malicious intent, she clearly is a repeat offender. O’Donnell appears to have a much stronger level of evidence against her than D’Souza did, yet there are virtually zero calls for her to be prosecuted.
The political motivations behind the targeting of D’Souza were clearly the driving factor in Trump’s decision to pardon him.
But that doesn’t matter to Democrats, who are convinced that Trump abused his authority. Congressman Steve Cohen told CNN’s, Wolf Blitzer:
“The president has total authority to issue pardons pursuant to the Constitution. It’s an unlimited power. But if you abuse the power, and there can be an abuse of the power, and the Federalist Papers talked about it, the remedy for that is impeachment. Some people say you shouldn’t talk about impeachment, but you have to talk about impeachment when the Constitution has been impugned. And if the pardon power is what is being used to obstruct the — justice in this case, which is what I see happening, the resolution, according to the Federalist Papers, is impeachment, and it needs to be talked about.”
Rep. Cohen is clearly searching for any excuse to call for Trump’s impeachment.
Democrats have been calling for him to be impeached since the first day he got into office. After almost any decision the President makes, you can count on there to be a chorus of calls for impeachment by the left.
His decision to pardon D’Souza was well within his power and was the right thing to do in the eyes of conservative Americans.
Do you agree with Trump’s decision to pardon Dinesh D’Souza?
