In response to Donald Trump’s election, the left has dramatically shifted in their positions.
They are in a race to the far-left in hopes of motivating voters in the upcoming midterm elections.
But Democrats just got terrible news that changes their entire strategy in 2018.
Fake News Family Separation Claims
In recent months, Democrats concocted a claim that President Donald Trump had begun separating families at the borders and putting their children into cages.
The reality of the matter is that Trump was simply enforcing laws already on the books, and many of the pictures used to attack the policy actually came from the Obama-era.
But that doesn’t matter to the anti-Trump left, whose only goal in pushing the family separation narrative was to attack Trump.
In doing so, they also singled in on Immigrations and Customs Enforcement (ICE) as a target for visceral attacks for nothing more than enforcing immigration laws.
Many Democrats have gone so far as to make abolishing ICE a plank in their platform.
But new polling shows that may not be a good idea.
A Losing Issue
A Phoenix-based polling company recently polled voters in the state of Arizona on a number of issues, including their feelings about ICE.
The results of the poll show that a vast majority of voters, both Republican and Democrats, agree that abolishing ICE is a bad idea.
On the Republican side, 71.1 percent are opposed to abolishing ICE, while 19.2 percent are in support, and 9.7 percent were unsure.
While Democrats are more likely to support abolishing ICE, the numbers don’t look promising for anti-ICE politicians.
41.6 percent of Democrats oppose calls to abolish ICE.
While that may sound like promising numbers for anti-ICE activists, only 26 percent support abolishing ICE, while 32.4 percent are unsure.
While the main takeaway on the Democrat side is that Democrat voters don’t know what to believe, it clearly shows that promoting an anti-ICE platform probably isn’t a good idea.
No Party Leadership
Another takeaway on the Democrat numbers is that the large numbers of Democrats who are unsure likely have to do with Democrats having no real party leader.
Many Democrats are clueless on what position to take because of how un-unified the Democrats currently are.
Prior to the election of Donald Trump, contentious issues like abolishing ICE would either be promoted or shot down by the party’s leader, which used to be Barack Obama.
Currently, Democrats have no leader.
The more progressive far-left wing of the party is at odds with the more moderate wing, and there’s nobody who can bridge the divide.
Democrats were set on Hillary Clinton becoming the party’s leader after being elected president.
But as everyone now knows, that didn’t pan out, and they had no backup plan.
On the other side of the aisle, Republicans are currently more unified than they have been in a very long time.
President Trump’s bold leadership has become fully embraced by Republicans more wholeheartedly than anybody expected.
That party unity is going to be a huge advantage going into the upcoming midterm elections.
Do you think Republicans are going to do well in the upcoming midterm elections?
