Democrats are determined to block Trump’s SCOTUS nominee.
But their latest tactic backfired.
Now, a top elections lawyer is demanding an investigation against this liberal group.
Liberal PAC Threatens a $1.3 Million Donation Against This Republican Senator Over Kavanaugh
The so-called Mainers for Accountable Leadership (MFAL) pledged to spend $1.3 million if this Senator votes for Kavanaugh’s confirmation.
And they’re not messing around.
MFAL’s message to Senator Susan Collins is clear:
“Vote against Kavanaugh or else!”
But is their threat illegal?
MFAL asked donors to pledge a donation against Senator Collins.
Here’s the catch.
MFAL will only charge their credit cards if Senator Collins votes for Judge Kavanaugh.
But if she votes against him, the potential donors are off the hook.
That kind of fundraising may be illegal according to one prominent elections lawyer.
Did the liberal PAC break the law?
This threat against a Republican Senator is the Democrats’ latest tactic.
Judge Kavanaugh is very qualified for his position.
So instead of hitting him on his merits, Democrats are doing everything to block him.
But according to a qualified elections lawyer, this latest tactic may be illegal.
Newsmax reports, prominent Republican elections attorney, Cleta Mitchell said this fundraising tactic may violate election laws.
“They’re trying to tie her official action to their threat that they’re going to give $1 million to somebody to run against her, if she doesn’t vote the way [they want her] to,” Mitchell told Newsmax.
“It is certainly raising the specter of whether or not this violates the United States criminal code to prohibitions against attempted bribery, by linking official actions to monetary reward,” Mitchell added.
Democrats don’t believe in the Rule of Law.
Like a cornered animal, they’ll do anything to get their way.
Even if that means breaking the law.
In their eyes, the ends always justify the means.
Did liberals’ bribe backfire?
Senator Susan Collins is aware of this liberal scheme against her.
In fact, she called this quid pro quo fundraising a bribe.
“If I vote against him, the money is refunded to the donors. If I vote for him, the money is given to my opponent for the 2020 race,” Collins told Newsmax.
“This effort will not influence my vote at all. I think it demonstrates the new lows to which the judge’s opponents have stooped,” Collins added.
Democrat Plan to Stop Kavanaugh
The truth is, it didn’t matter who President Trump nominated.
Democrats would react the same against any Trump nominee.
Because after all, their entire goal is to delay the confirmation.
But they know they can’t stop it.
At least not currently.
If they are to stop Kavanaugh they need to delay his confirmation until after the midterms.
Currently, Republicans have clear majorities.
As long as that is true, Democrats have no leverage.
They can gain that leverage by taking back the Senate.
That’s the house that will vote to confirm Kavanaugh.
But the way things are looking, even a delay won’t be enough.
Republicans have a clear advantage going into the midterms in the Senate.
The key states with Senate elections almost all favor Republicans.
While it is possible Democrats may pull off a Senate victory, it is becoming less likely with Trump’s successes.
Still, that won’t stop Democrats from bribery-like tactics.
