Democrats are furious at the Supreme Court.
But liberals think they found a way to undermine the conservative majority.
And now Democrats invented one awful scheme to kick Clarence Thomas off the Supreme Court.
The corporate media, liberal activists and elected Democrats ramped up the pressure on Clarence Thomas to recuse himself from any controversial case because his wife Ginni Thomas is a longtime fixture of the conservative movement.
Ginni Thomas used to work at the Heritage Foundation and now runs Liberty Consulting, a firm that aids conservative candidates and issue groups in pushing back against the left’s agenda.
Georgetown University Law Professor Caroline Fredrickson claimed in an interview with the Washington Post that it was dangerous for Thomas to rule on cases where his wife advocated for a particular outcome.
“In every case that has come up, he has shown no interest in recusal and has in fact seemingly been defiant,” Fredrickson told the Post. “To be a Supreme Court justice and to be married to a firebrand activist who’s trying to blow things up” is unique. “It’s so out of bounds that if it weren’t so frightening, it would be comical.”
Fredrickson explained that it was up to Thomas to decide if he should recuse himself from a particular case.
“It’s sort of the honor system, it depends on their own evaluation. … It’s kind of crazy. They’re supposed to be responsible for keeping us all on the right side of the law. And in fact, they don’t have any responsibilities themselves,” Fredrickson added.
This controversy began in 2000 with the Bush v. Gore case.
When the Supreme Court heard the matter Vice President Al Gore rejected demanding Thomas recuse himself because Ginni Thomas recommended some candidates for jobs in a potential Bush administration.
“The vice president has the highest regard for the independent judiciary, so we’re not going to comment on the various questions that have been raised,” Gore’s statement read.
Thomas was one of the five justices that put a stop to the Democrats’ scheme to steal the election by continuously recounting ballots in Democrat strongholds until the party came up with enough ballots to declare Gore the winner of Florida and the election.
Gore’s deputy campaign manager Mark Fabiani told the Washington Post he regretted not urging Gore to demand Thomas step aside.
Thomas recusing himself would have resulted in a four-to-four split court which would have allowed the Democrats’ recount scheme to continue.
“It’s an attitude that, today, seems positively quaint,” Fabiani wrote in a statement to the Post. “I wish we had objected more vigorously to the Vice President’s high-minded advice … Ginni Thomas’ claim in 2000 that she doesn’t talk to her husband about Supreme Court business now seems laughable. Is there a single opinion that Justice Thomas has ever written that is inconsistent with his wife’s far right-wing views?”
There is no basis for Thomas to recuse himself based on his wife’s political activism.
What the corporate media wants is for Thomas to recuse himself in cases involving affirmative action, the Second Amendment, abortion and other hot button issues.
Liberals figure if Thomas steps aside they will have an easier time persuading Justices John Roberts or Brett Kavanaugh to break ranks with conservatives and create deadlocked votes that leave liberal policies in place.
