Democrats have lost their minds over Trump separating families at the border.
They don’t care that former President Obama did the same thing.
But that doesn’t matter now, because the Democrats just lost the immigration fight because of one picture.
In the age of outrage politics, Democrats would rather use sad pictures to cause their base to rise up in anger than actually debate policies. Border security is where they do this best, putting crying children at the forefront of the debate in an attempt to gain sympathy and open the borders.
The left’s newest poster child to gain sympathy on immigration is a two-year-old girl named Yanela Hernandez. A picture of her crying at the border has been used by TIME magazine to show how evil President Donald Trump’s border separation policy is.

There’s only one problem with the picture; the child featured wasn’t separated by her family. In fact, the picture was used to help the child after it was released.
The child was smuggled out of Honduras a few weeks before the picture was taken along with her mother. The child’s father advised against leaving the country, but the child’s mother didn’t listen and left in the middle of the night.
Denis Javier Varela Hernandez, who is the child’s father, spoke to the Daily Mail stating that his daughter and wife are “safer now than when they were making that journey to the border.” He also stated that his wife and daughter are doing “fine,” and are not separated from each other.
This exposes an important point that he left ignores. The childhood separations very rarely occurred, and generally only occurred when another crime was being committed. As Ann Coulter recently stated, these children are being separated from “coyotes and drug mules.”
The mother of the child featured in that image was neither of those things so they were not separated. She will instead more than likely be deported along with her child back to Honduras with her husband.
While the father of the child did express that things are not going great for everyone in Honduras, he is happy that he has a job, and that the journey to the United States is much more difficult than the situation he is dealing with in his home country.
“I wouldn’t risk my life for it,” Hernandez said of the journey his wife attempted“It’s hard to find a good job here and that’s why many people choose to leave. But I thank God that I have a good job here. And I would never risk my life making that journey.”
So the Democrat’s poster child was not separated at the border, and she was in a household in her home country that had an income, yet the left still thinks her picture should be used as justification to weaken border security.
When engaging in outrage politics, you lose the argument altogether when your poster child to create outrage turns out to not fit your narrative in any way.
