Democrats learned to hate Devin Nunes when Nunes helped expose the Russian collusion hoax.
But that was nothing compared to what came next.
And Devin Nunes just got handed a promotion that is bad news for Joe Biden.
Tucker Carlson shocked viewers as well as much of Washington by reporting that a government whistleblower stepped forward and revealed that the National Security Agency spied on his communications.
Carlson said the whistleblower relayed information from text messages and emails that only the other person involved in the conversation would know as proof of this claim.
In recounting to viewers that the NSA spied on him because he was a ‘critic of the regime,’ Carlson expressed dismay that Washington would likely do nothing about this abuse because the establishment of both parties religiously defends the Deep State.
However, House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy made a gesture.
McCarthy released a statement announcing that House Intelligence Committee Ranking Member Devin Nunes would lead a GOP investigation into if the NSA illegally spied on Tucker Carlson.
In his statement, McCarthy cited the Biden administration politicizing the NSA by sidelining General Counsel Michael Ellis because President Trump appointed Ellis to that position before leaving office.
“Earlier this year, I sent a letter to Secretary of Defense Austin expressing concern over the politicization of the Agency through the sidelining of Michael Ellis as NSA General Counsel. I asked that Mr. Ellis be reinstated and expressed my concern regarding undue political influence in NSA placing Mr. Ellis on administrative leave,” McCarthy wrote.
McCarthy then transitioned into Carlson’s allegations and noted they fit a disturbing pattern and raised questions that McCarthy wanted answered.
That’s why McCarthy announced Devin Nunes would lead the probe into if the NSA illegally spied on Tucker Carlson.
“Now, there is a public report that NSA read the emails of Fox News host Tucker Carlson. Although NSA publicly denied targeting Carlson, I have serious questions regarding this matter that must be answered.” McCarthy continued. “Given this disturbing trend, I’ve asked HPSCI Ranking Member Devin Nunes to investigate and find answers on behalf of the American people. The NSA cannot be used as a political instrument, and House Republicans will ensure accountability and transparency.”
During the Russian collusion hoax, Nunes published a memo outlining the FBI’s abuses of power of using the fake Russia dossier to obtain a FISA warrant to spy on former Trump campaign aide Carter Page.
Even the Washington Post was forced to admit Nunes’ memo – which the media widely criticized after it was published – was largely vindicated by Department of Justice Inspector General Michael Horowitz’s report that found 17 critical errors and omissions in the FBI’s FISA warrant application.
Conservatives will be looking to see if Republicans can perform oversight over the NSA if Nunes will deliver similar results as during Russiagate.
