Despite attempting to be the party pushing for the rights of women, the Democrats have a big problem with the mistreating of women.
Just at the start of the year, Sen. Al Franken was forced to resign over sexual harassment allegations.
And now another Democrat could see the same fate for a domestic abuse scandal that just dropped.
A Top Party Official
Rep. Keith Ellison of Minnesota’s 5th Congressional District isn’t just another Democrat in the House.
First of all, he serves as Deputy Chair of the Democratic National Committee (DNC).
He also just narrowly lost in his fight to be Chairman of the DNC, which is the highest position within the party.
Ellison represents the more progressive wing of the Democrat Party, with the support of people like Sen. Bernie Sanders, who pushed heavily trying to get Ellison seated as DNC chairman.
Now he’s onto his next career path in his attempt to become Attorney General of Minnesota.
In the position of Attorney General, he would be given the chance to defy Trump in attempts to implement his agenda in the state of Minnesota.
Many are seeing Attorney Generals as the next front-line in the anti-Trump resistance and is almost certainly the reason Ellison chose to run.
Four Days Before The Primary
While his campaign was going great, with huge supporters like Bernie Sanders stumping for him in the state, it was a Facebook post by the son of a women Ellison used to date that could be what brings down Ellison.
The women’s son claims that there is a video of intense abuse that Ellison brought against his mother.
In response, Ellison denied the accusation but did acknowledge that he had been in a long-term relationship with the women in question until 2016.
With this bombshell dropping just four days before the primary, it means big trouble for Ellison who is already in a difficult primary race.
He is facing four other Democrats in an open primary, and if he is able to win, he will face his Republican counterpart in November.
Of his other opponents, Ellison is surely the most likely to loudly fight against Trump in the state, especially considering that he made a name for himself being a far-left Democrat.
Hard To Overcome
Accusations of domestic abuse are difficult to overcome, even if they are not true, or can’t be proven.
If anything, Keith Ellison should understand this more than anyone.
Just last year then-U.S. Senate Candidate Roy Moore faced similar accusations, but of sexual harassment and assault.
In the case of Roy Moore, his accusers were often tied to far-left lawyers, and the accusations were from 30 or 40 years in the past.
But in the case of Moore, Ellison didn’t give him the same doubt that he is hoping that voters in Minnesota give him.
And the accusations against Ellison are much more recent than the ones made against Moore.
It seems that Ellison is asking people to do the opposite of what he did to Roy Moore when facing a similar situation.
Do you think that voters should oppose Keith Ellison in wake of these accusations?
