Donald Trump confounds many of his supporters by the fact that Trump continues to grant interviews to hostile left-wing reporters who turn around and use Trump’s quotes to fill out their anti-Trump hit pieces.
The latest example came when Trump agreed to an interview with radical left-wing activist Olivia Nuzzi of New York Magazine.
Back in May 2020 Nuzzi stood up at a press briefing and asked Trump an absurd gotcha question about how more Americans dying from COVID than the Vietnam War should disqualify Trump from winning re-election.
“If an American president loses more Americans over the course of six weeks than died in the entirety of the Vietnam War, does he deserve to be reelected?” Nuzzi asked.
In Joe Biden’s first year in office more Americans died of COVID than on Trump’s watch.
Ideologues like Nuzzi would never ask Joe Biden such a question.
With this history in mind — and knowing what type of story she would write — Trump agreed to participate in Nuzzi’s story.
And naturally it turned into a hit piece calling Trump’s campaign embarrassing.
Nuzzi even quoted one Trump advisor bemoaning the fact that Trump’s “magic was gone.”
“It’s not there. In this business, you can have it and have it so hot and it can go overnight and it’s gone and you can’t get it back,” Nuzzi reported the advisor saying.
“I think we’re just seeing it’s gone. The magic is gone,” the advisor continued.
Nuzzi later appeared on CNN to discuss her piece and claimed that since Trump’s campaign was built on his personality, if the “magic was gone,” Trump was unlikely to win the GOP nomination.
“That was an advisor speaking to me saying that the magic is gone and this person was not sure that Trump would be able to get it back,” Nuzzi began.
“That’s sort of the difficult thing about a campaign that is really about a personality. Even if it were to be run in a really common sense way, would it really matter if the personality that it was built around is not really on his game?” Nuzzi continued.
Trump blasted Nuzzi on Truth Social saying he did Nuzzi a favor by agreeing to an interview.
“The Fake & Corrupt News is only getting worse! As an example, I agreed to do a short telephone interview for a once very good, but now on its ‘last legs’ and failing, New York Magazine,” Trump stated.
“The reporter was a shaky & unattractive wack job, known as ‘tough’ but dumb as a rock, who actually wrote a decent story about me a long time ago,” Trump continued.
Trump wondered if Nuzzi’s anonymous sources even existed.
“Her name, Olivia Nuzzi. Anyway, the story was Fake News, her ‘anonymous sources’ don’t exist (true with many writers), and I’m happily fighting hard for our GREAT USA!” Trump added.
Left-wing activists in the corporate media like Olivia Nuzzi have played this game with Trump for six years.
There is nothing Donald Trump can do that will win him positive coverage in the press.
And many of Trump’s supporters wish Trump would stop giving time to liberal reporters whose only agenda is to destroy him.
