President Trump was once again betrayed by a Federal judge, but this was a double cross no one saw coming.
And now this bad news could change everything for the President.
A federal Judge has struck down a small-business insurance plan touted by President Trump.
This marks the 2nd such setback in a week for Trump’s health care plans.
Struck down was a plan that allows groups of small businesses and sole proprietors to band together to offer lower-cost insurance.
U.S. District Judge John D. Bates wrote his opinion late last week stating that so-called “association health plans” were “clearly an end-run” around consumer protections required by the Obama-era Affordable Care Act.
Another federal judge blocked the Trump administration’s Medicaid work requirements for low-income people.
The plans at issue in Bates’ ruling would allow groups of small businesses and sole proprietors to join together to offer lower-cost coverage that doesn’t have to include all the benefits required by Obamacare.
These plans could also be offered across state lines, a major part of Trump’s campaign promise to repeal and replace Obamacare.
Of course, President Trump has been forced to use his constitutional executive order powers to chip away at Obamacare, because the Republican led Congress failed to keep its promises of repeal and replace.
Despite multiple attempts to pass legislation, Republicans were unable to pass anything, forcing Trump’s hand in signing executive orders to try and get rid of, and replace the worst elements of the Obamacare law.
In the case of the small-business plans, Trump’s order would have merely put small businesses and associations on the same playing field as mega corporations.
It granted these small companies the same flexibility on benefits that are enjoyed by the major corporations.
For example, most large corporations are not subject to state regulations and were exempt from Obamacare’s stifling rules and requirements.
Trump administration officials did not specifically say how the administration would respond, but did say the President is moving forward on his health care agenda.
Just last week the Trump Justice Department joined Texas and other states seeking to completely overturn Obamacare as unconstitutional.
Also, the President has been teasing a new healthcare plan stating that this new plan will be much better than Obamacare and tweeting out that Republicans are going to become “the Party of Great HealthCare!”
Democrats and Never-Trumpers, of course, are already lining up in opposition to this new plan, despite not having a clue what may, or may not, be in it.
And weak-kneed Republicans are worried that either repeal of Obamacare, or passage of a new plan, will leave Republicans vulnerable in 2020.
Unfortunately, many of these so-called Republicans haven’t yet figured out they are already vulnerable due to their failure to keep their promises to the American people.
We will keep you updated on this story.
