Barack Obama left behind a trap that was supposed to destroy Donald Trump’s Presidency.
But now all hell is breaking loose across Washington.
And Donald Trump just handed Barack Obama the biggest embarrassment of his life.
Barack Obama left behind a bigger mess than any President in American history.
In no area was the crisis facing Donald Trump greater than in foreign policy.
Obama campaigned for President back in 2008 on ending America’s wars in the Middle East and finally delivering victory in Afghanistan.
When Obama left office, ISIS controlled a caliphate in Iraq and Syria and thousands of American troops remained in Afghanistan when neither Obama nor any administration official could explain why.
President Trump quickly set about cleaning up this mess.
Under the President’s leadership, American forces destroyed 100 percent of the ISIS caliphate and Donald Trump brought home 1,500 of the 2,000 troops that were in Syria at the start of the Trump administration.
But more importantly, President Trump made the deal in Afghanistan where Obama failed and that no one thought was possible.
The Trump administration agreed to a peace deal with the Taliban that would finally end America’s 19-year-long war and allow American forces to come home with the honor and victory they deserved.
The deal calls for the Taliban to renounce Al Qaeda and ISIS, maintain the cease-fire and enter into talks for a political solution with the Afghanistan government.
Secretary of State Mike Pompeo traveled to Doha, Qatar to observe the signing of the agreement and praised the deal.
“This agreement will mean nothing, and today’s good feelings will not last, if we don’t take concrete actions on commitments and promises that have been made,” Pompeo declared. “I know there will be a temptation to declare victory. But victory — victory for Afghans — will only be achieved when they can live in peace and prosper.”
Secretary of Defense Mark Esper stated that this deal would allow all of the 14,000 American troops in Afghanistan to come home by next April under a condition-based withdrawal.
“Thanks to President Trump’s leadership, we are finally making substantial progress toward ending our nation’s longest war,” Esper explained. “Today’s release of the Joint Declaration between the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan and the United States marks a pivotal moment in the peace process.”
“However, should the Taliban fail to honor their commitments, they will forfeit their chance to sit with fellow Afghans and deliberate on the future of their country,” Esper added. “Moreover, the United States would not hesitate to nullify the agreement.”
The easiest thing to do in Washington is to continue the status quo on foreign policy.
When Presidents want to reduce the American footprint abroad the military-industrial complex, its pet politicians team up with so-called “journalists” in the fake news media to create the impression that if a President orders even just one American troop to come home from any deployment abroad that chaos will ensue, the President will have “lost” that country, and that any act of violence that occurs was a direct result of a “vacuum” of American leadership.
President Trump wisely dismissed these voices as a chorus of Washington insiders that failed Americans for a generation with one disastrous decision after another to maintain a military presence in Afghanistan long past the point where it made any sense for American national security.
