The mainstream media crossed a line in their attempt to hurt Donald Trump.
Now their awful behavior is coming back to bite them.
Donald Trump filed a massive lawsuit that’s bad news for the mainstream media.
In October 2018 The New York Times wrote a hit piece on then-President Donald Trump.
The piece outright accused him of helping his parents “dodge taxes” through “outright fraud.”
Trump is now seeking no less than $100 million in damages, from both The New York Times and against his niece Mary Trump alleging that the newspaper coerced his niece to “smuggle records out of her attorney’s office and turn them over to the Times.”
During a legal battle over the estate of Mary’s grandfather, Fred Trump, Mary obtained 40,000 pages of documents, the lawsuit alleged.
When the legal matters were settled all parties signed a confidentiality pact, which Mary later broke according to the complaint.
“The defendants engaged in an insidious plot to obtain confidential and highly-sensitive records which they exploited for their own benefit and utilized as a means of falsely legitimizing their publicized works,” Trump attorney Alina Habba alleges in the 27-page complaint, filed in Dutchess County, New York, Supreme Court.
“The defendants’ actions were motivated by a personal vendetta and their desire to gain fame, notoriety, acclaim and a financial windfall and were further intended to advance their political agenda.”
The suit also noted that “the 2018 article received a record-breaking amount of attention, garnering more views than any previous article in the Times’ history,” as “the stock price of the Times rose 7.4% during the week of the publication of the 2018 article.”
The New York Times spokesperson Danielle Rhoades Ha said that the newspaper is prepared to fight the suit.
“The Times’s coverage of Donald Trump’s taxes helped inform citizens through meticulous reporting on a subject of overriding public interest,” she wrote in an email to the New York Post.
“This lawsuit is an attempt to silence independent news organizations and we plan to vigorously defend against it,” she added.
The Times won the Pulitzer Prize for Explanatory Reporting in 2019 for their reporting on the taxes.
Mary Trump threw a fit over the lawsuit.
“I think he is a f**king loser, and he is going to throw anything against the wall he can,” Mary Trump said to The Daily Beast. “It’s desperation. The walls are closing in and he is throwing anything against the wall that will stick. As is always the case with Donald, he’ll try and change the subject.”
Donald Trump has hinted that this is only the start.
“More to come, including on other people, and Fake News media,” Trump said.
