It’s official: Donald Trump is running for president.
He just made the historic announcement at Mar-a-Lago.
And Trump’s new presidential campaign is about to change everything.
Donald Trump is seeking to be the first president since Grover Cleveland to serve two non-consecutive terms in office.
Only a handful of men in history have attempted to make a political comeback of this scale, and only one has ever truly succeeded.
If Trump pulls it off, he will go down in the history books for achieving something which many political observers believe to be impossible.
“Trump, 76, is seeking to become only the second U.S. president in history to serve non-consecutive terms, after Grover Cleveland, whose second stint ended in 1897. Biden, 79, said last week he intends to run for re-election and will likely make a final decision by early next year,” adds Reuters.
But while Trump may be trying to replicate something which has only happened once before in America’s history, there’s clear evidence to suggest that he could be in an excellent position to pull off the near-impossible, largely due to Joe Biden’s own personal political failings.
Biden is deeply unpopular, and even members of his own party don’t want him to run for president again.
“In an Edison Research exit poll, seven out of 10 midterm voters expressed the view that Biden, who remains deeply unpopular, should not run again.”
Trump’s formal 2024 presidential announcement was made at his Mar-a-Lago home in Florida, where he vowed to defeat Joe Biden and continue with his campaign to make America great again.
Reuters reports, “Donald Trump on Tuesday launched a bid to regain the presidency in 2024, aiming to pre-empt potential Republican rivals.
“Seeking a potential rematch with Democratic President Joe Biden, Trump made his announcement at his Mar-a-Lago estate in Florida a week after midterm elections.”
The decision to formally launch a third presidential campaign comes at a time when many political observers were expecting Trump to throw his hat into the ring sooner or later.
Trump had hinted at a political comeback ever since he left office in January 2021.
And now, after years of speculation, he’s made the decision official with his latest announcement.
What’s more, his campaign has already filed paperwork to run for office, making the announcement official in the eyes of federal campaign finance regulators as well.
“In order to make America great again, I am tonight announcing my candidacy for president of the United States,” Trump said. “Two years ago we were a great nation and soon we will be a great nation again.”
This announcement serves as the capstone of Trump’s time out of office.
Almost the entire country has focused on whether or not he would actually run for a second term.
And now that he is, it’s clear that the Trump Era of American politics will continue for some time to come.
While Trump still has to work to secure the Republican nomination first, it’s clear that he begins the race as the favorite to clench the GOP’s nod for the office in 2024.
