Democrats believed they were on the cusp of victory.
They thought Donald Trump committed a grave error in shutting down the government over funding for a border wall.
But then every Democrat in America panicked when they saw the results of this brand new poll.
It seems like every Democrat in America is lining up to run for President in 2020.
Experts believe up to 30 Democrats may throw their hats in the ring.
They think Trump is on the ropes.
Already former San Antonio mayor Housing and Urban Development Secretary Julian Castro announced an exploratory committee for President.
Every ambitious Democrat in America buys into the media narrative that Trump shutting down the government over border wall funding signals the death knell for his re-election chances.
But one Democrat stands out above the rest right now.
Texas Congressman Robert Francis O’Rourke is the gleam in the eye of grassroots Democrats.
The Irish Democrat – who goes by Beto to fool voters into thinking he is Hispanic – raised an unheard of $80 million for his failed Senate challenge to Ted Cruz.
However, Beto captured the imagination of liberals across America with a campaign staging events to give the impression of viral spontaneity.
O’Rourke live-streamed himself air drumming in a drive-through line at Taco Bell or skateboarding in a Whataburger parking lot to give off the impression of “JFK cool.”
The media and grassroots Democrats bought it hook-line-and-sinker.
When he lost to Ted Cruz by just 2.6 points in deep red Texas, the fake news media immediately talked him up as leading Presidential contender.
Polls showed O’Rourke surging ahead of much talked about contenders like Senators Elizabeth Warren, Kamala Harris, Bernie Sanders, and Cory Booker.
In fact, a Change Research poll conducted from December 13-17 showed O’Rourke tied with Joe Biden for first place among Democrat primary voters at 21 percent.
Of course these polls really only measure name recognition.
But it does show how quickly O’Rourke’s star rose with the far-left Democrat base.
Meet the Press host Chuck Todd claimed O’Rourke froze the Democrat race as staff and donors do not want to commit to other candidates until the Irish Democrat makes his intentions clear.
“The race is frozen. Let’s be real, it’s frozen until Beto announces what he will do. Donors are in love with him for the fact it’s a blank slate,” Todd claimed.
However, this could be bad news for the left.
And the left’s love for O’Rouke could drive them into a ditch in 2020.
A recent Hill-HarrisX poll found Donald Trump leading O’Rourke by seven points in a hypothetical matchup.
Trump joked about O’Rourke’s Presidential aspirations and displayed the mocking sense of humor that devastated 16 other Republicans as well as Crooked Hillary Clinton.
“I thought you were supposed to win before you run for president,” Trump joked to a group of reporters.
There is no doubt if Robert Francis O’Rourke runs for President he will be a formidable contender in the Democratic primary.
But his far-left ideology and attentiveness to identity politics will alienate swing voters.
And the fact that he is a white Irishman pretending to be Hispanic could turn off Democrats that will view life through the prism of race and white privilege.
Both of these factors could render him one of the weakest Democrats’ general election candidates in the field.
We will keep you up to date on any new developments in this ongoing story.
