Democrats used every trick in the book to destroy Brett Kavanaugh.
But now one FBI agent could be in big trouble over what happened during the Kavanaugh fight.
Christine Blasey Ford’s Letter Leaked to the Press
Christine Blasey Ford went public with her claims Brett Kavanaugh tried to rape her at a high school party after an anonymous letter she wrote was leaked to the press.
Democrat Senator Dianne Feinstein had the letter in her possession for weeks.
And she sat on it.
She gave it to the FBI once it became known that reporters were working on this story.
Ford then revealed her identity in a Washington Post article.
Republicans believed Feinstein held on to the letter until just days before Kavanaugh’s confirmation vote in order to use it for maximum political impact.
They also accused her – or her staff – of leaking the letter to the left-wing news outlet The Intercept.
Feinstein denied she or her staff leaked the letter.
That did not satisfy Republicans.
Republicans Call for Investigation
Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell told Politico in an exclusive interview that he hoped the Senate Judiciary Committee would investigate the leak.
Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell told POLITICO on Saturday that the Judiciary Committee “ought to take a look at” the initial media report of Ford’s letter to Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D-Calif.), laying out her allegation of assault. That media report included no details of Ford’s allegation, describing its topic as “an incident involving Kavanaugh and a woman while they were in high school.”
But Republicans have seized on the public disclosure of the letter, which the judge’s accuser had asked remain confidential.
“I think it clearly was, honestly, a despicable thing to do to Dr. Ford,” McConnell said. “And it kind of underscored the tactics that have been used: It started in committee and then went straight out into the public.”
Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Chuck Grassley did not commit to an investigation.
But he noted many Republicans on the committee would demand one.
“I’ve got some people on my committee that feel strongly about following up on the leak and all that stuff,” Grassley stated. “I’ll have a conversation with them. I haven’t made up my mind yet.”
A New Suspect Emerges
Some conservatives do not think Feinstein or her staff leaked the letter.
Instead, they pointed to former FBI agent Monica McLean.
They believe McLean was one of the “beach friends” Ford cited in her testimony that helped her come forward.
Ford claimed she made the decision to write the letter in July while she was visiting friends in Rehoboth Beach, Delaware.
The California State bar admitted McLean in 1992.
The address on the law license was listed as a P.O. Box in Rehoboth Beach, Delaware.
McLean also attended the hearing where Ford testified.
And one of Ford’s ex-boyfriends submitted a sworn statement revealing that he saw Ford coach McLean on how to take a lie detector test.
Some conservatives connected these dots and suspected McLean leaked the letter.
