President Trump left the political class fuming after he defeated Hillary Clinton in 2016.
And since taking office, Trump has only made the establishment even more angry with his America First agenda.
And now, this former President just took a shot at Trump that the President never saw coming.
President Trump has made many enemies after winning the 2016 election in a stunning upset.
And among those were the political class he humiliated by beating their crowned successor to Barack Obama, Hillary Clinton.
Over the past two years, President Trump has continued to leave the former political elites who ran the United States for years even more bitter.
From remaking the court system to passing a historic tax reform law, President Trump is on a roll.
But one former President is determined to stop him, and he thinks attacking Trump’s legitimacy in office is the best way.
Mediaite reports, “Former President Jimmy Carter said he believes President Donald Trump’s election was illegitimate and “he didn’t actually win the election in 2016.”
“I think the interference, though not yet quantified, should be fully investigated and would show that Trump didn’t actually win the election in 2016, he lost the election,” Carter said.
In one move, Carter tried to cast a shadow over President Trump’s entire term in office.
And by doing so he tried to undo all of President Trump’s accomplishments by claiming that he’s an illegitimately elected President.
“He was put into office because the Russians interfered,” Carter added.
In Carter’s mind, President Trump was never really president in the first place. He stole the election and thus anything he’s done in office can be undone immediately because he never had the authority to do anything, from appointing Supreme Court justices to signing bills into law.
This is a dangerous game that Carter is playing.
By his own logic, anyone can accuse the President of any party of being illegitimate and then that gives their opponents the ability to declare that all their actions while in office can be immediately undone.
It’s an argument that can only end in complete chaos and the destruction of America’s government as the Founding Fathers intended it.
But Carter doesn’t seem to care.
He’s acting far too short-sighted to see the danger of what he’s advocating for, and his supporters who are so obsessed with their hatred of President Trump fail to realize that same argument can be made for any future Democratic President as well.
When asked to backtrack on that claim, Carter even doubled down.
“Based on what I said, which I can’t retract,” he said.
“Carter has spoken with Trump in the past and attended Trump’s inauguration. Earlier this year, Carter says he offered Trump advice on dealing with China after Trump called him to talk about the country,” concludes Mediaite.
Do you think President Carter made a mistake in claiming President Trump was illegitimately elected?
