Fox News Channel underwent a turbulent period in the last several months.
Ratings slumped after the election.
And Fox News just announced the one network shake-up that everyone was waiting for.
Fox News CEO Lachlan Murdoch sent a letter to network employees celebrating the two-year anniversary of the Fox Corporation.
Two years ago, Fox sold its entertainment and movie division to Disney in a blockbuster deal for 71 billion dollars.
The streamlined Fox Corporation consisted of Fox News, the Wall Street Journal and Fox Sports.
In the last several months, liberal activists targeted Fox’s bottom line by trying to pressure cable companies to drop Fox to deny it of the carriage fees Fox charges cable providers.
Murdoch made it clear that liberal pressure campaign would not succeed, boasting to employees about the financial health of the expanding portfolio of Fox Corporation’s properties.
“The businesses that underpin FOX are thriving, and we have grown and diversified with the acquisitions of Tubi and Credible as well as our joint venture FOX Bet,” Murdoch wrote.
The most important point in Murdoch’s letter was that employees would not return to the office until after Labor Day on September 7.
“While we spent the last year working in new, and often remote, ways, you have continued to prioritize caring for each other. Similarly, the health and safety of our workforce has remained my priority. With that as the guiding principle, we are deferring our next possible phase one reopening date to no earlier than September 7, immediately after Labor Day,” Murdoch added.
“While I wish we could celebrate this anniversary milestone together, I want to recognize and thank you for your contribution to the company,” Murdoch continued.
Fox News is following other media companies like CNN and The New York Times in requiring their employees to return to work by the end of the summer.
Media companies being able to send their employees to work from home via Zoom calls while small business owners were forced to close their doors and working-class Americans trudged to their jobs every day highlighted one of the great inequities of the pandemic.
During this outbreak, upper-class Americans saw their incomes rise while middle and lower-class Americans saw the government destroy their lives with pointless, but endless lockdowns.
One reason it was so easy for the media to support these lockdowns was because it had no tangible impact on their lives.
Media outlets did not close down and their employees comfortably worked from home.
By the time Fox News’ employees return to the office it will have been 18 months since they last stepped foot in the workplace.
The Democrat Party presidential primary was still going on at that point.
It’s a welcome sign that Fox News is finally shaking up their employment situation and bringing their employees back to work.
However, it also shows how detached the media was from the American experience during the pandemic.
