Donald Trump is fighting a two-front war in the coronavirus pandemic.
President Trump is managing the federal response to the outbreak and battling a hostile fake news media scheming to weaponize the virus to help Joe Biden win the election in November.
And Fox News turned Trump’s life upside down with this demand.
The Surgeon General of the United States, Dr. Jerome Adams, appeared on Fox News Sunday to communicate the administration’s message that the next seven days were crucial to stopping the spread of the virus to the American people.
But instead, host Chris Wallace wanted to continue harping on the fake news attack on Trump over the President not issuing a national lockdown order.
“The coronavirus is not a state issue, it doesn’t follow or respect state borders. Dr. Fauci says he believes there should be a national stay-at-home order. Is he wrong?” Wallace asked Adams.
Adams correctly noted that in the United States, the Constitution grants the states powers to manage their own affairs.
The Surgeon General told Wallace that “we live in a country where we have a system of federalism.”
The President has no authority to lockdown the entire country.
Wallace and other fake news “reporters” that parrot this talking point either know this and don’t care or are so ignorant of the United States constitutional framework that they proudly display their ignorance every time they whine about the President not locking down the entire nation.
Dr. Adams tried to put the audience at ease by noting that there are far bigger public health threats that will kill more Americans than the coronavirus.
“More people will die even in the worst projections from cigarette smoking in this country than are going to die from coronavirus this year,” Surgeon General Adams explained.
Surgeon General Adams also told Wallace that a one-size-fits-all approach did not make sense because many states are “struggling with issues concerning how they can provide for the rest of the country to be able to stay at home.”
Wallace wouldn’t budge off his fake news attack points against Trump.
“There’s a big difference between opioids and cigarettes, which are something that people decide to use or not to use, and the coronavirus, which people catch. It’s not an individual choice. And you know, when President Trump says that he is a wartime president, during World War II, FDR didn’t say, ‘Well, it’s up to each state to decide what to do,’ he mobilized the nation. Again, why not a national stay-at-home order? The coronavirus doesn’t recognize states’ rights, so does the federal analogy really work here?” Wallace countered.
There are eight states that have not locked down their population.
Every one of these states – Arkansas, Iowa, North Dakota, South Dakota, South Carolina, Nebraska, Utah and Wyoming – all voted for Donald Trump in 2016 and they all closed nonessential businesses.
But the media doesn’t care about that fact or the fact that the situation on the ground in those states in terms of the virus outbreak is different than that of New York City.
If anything goes wrong, the fake news wants to claim red states sabotaged the effort to stop the spread by not instituting police states where law enforcement threatened to jail churchgoers and other residents that ventured out of their homes.
And Fox News host Chris Wallace is aiding and abetting this effort.
