Democrats have made one thing perfectly clear.
They want to confiscate every firearm in America.
And Hillary Clinton had gun owners fearing the worst after this speech.
Clinton re-emerged on the political stage for a speech at the Giffords Law Center to Prevent Gun Violence and drew a line in the sand.
The two-time failed Presidential candidate declared these midterm elections were the left’s chance to elect Democrat majorities that would work to gut the Second Amendment boasting this would “finally be the election that turns the tide against the gun lobby.”
Clinton added that she believed the majority of Americans support grabbing guns and that Democrats needed to turn them out adding “The vast majority of Americans are on our side. So we are winning the debate. But now we’ve got to get everyone to vote on this issue.”
Clinton’s push to elect gun grabbers this November is an ominous sign for conservatives.
For years, liberal politicians talked out of both sides of their mouths on gun rights.
They claimed to – at least rhetorically – support the Second Amendment while pushing legislation to disarm gun owners.
Clinton even gingerly tiptoed around the fact that she supported Australia’s gun confiscation law during her 2016 Presidential campaign.
But now that has all been thrown out the window.
Former Supreme Court Justice John Paul Stevens published an op-ed demanding the Second Amendment be repealed.
And California Congressman Eric Swalwell – a rising star in the party – has introduced legislation that would ban so-called “assault” weapons and allow government agents to kick in doors and arrest Americans who refuse to hand over their guns to the government.
It is an acceptable position in Democrat Party politics to call for full on gun bans.
And if the Democrats win in November, the floodgates on gun control will be open.
While full gun bans are unlikely to become law while Donald Trump is President, a future Democrat President will be emboldened to pursue the most extreme anti-gun agenda in our nation’s history.
The only way to win a Democrat Presidential nomination would be to pledge to ban firearms.
Democrat Party base voters would then demand action as a reward for their support.
Hillary Clinton’s speech is just the tip of the iceberg.
But while the long-term prospects suggest Democrats will adopt an even more extreme anti-gun platform in the long-term, the short-term suggests they could be in for political pain.
Democrat incumbents are running for re-election in ten states won by Donald Trump.
That includes states like North Dakota, Montana, Indiana, West Virginia and Missouri that Trump won by massive margins.
Democrat Senators will be caught between the pro-gun leanings of their home states and the rabid anti-gun insanity of their base voters.
If they drift from the anti-gun line to try and appeal to the broader electorate, they could risk turning off ideologically committed gun grabbers, which would sink their re-election chances.
If history is any guide, Democrats will side with their base on gun control and let the chips fall where they may electorally.
And while they may pay a price in November, their crusade to ban guns should worry all gun owners.
