No one – even Democrats – actually believe Joe Biden is running for re-election.
Biden passing on trying for a second term would create a mad scramble on the left.
Hillary Clinton let Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez know she is running for president with one word.
In an interview with GQ, New York Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez expressed skepticism about running for president saying the country was too racist and sexist to ever elect her.
“I hold two contradictory things [in mind] at the same time. One is just the relentless belief that anything is possible. But at the same time, my experience here has given me a front-row seat to how deeply and unconsciously, as well as consciously, so many people in this country hate women. And they hate women of color,” Ocasio-Cortez declared.
Clinton spoke with the Hollywood trade publication Variety to promote her Apple+ show Gutsy.
Variety asked Clinton if she agreed with Ocasio-Cortez that the American people hate women too much to ever elect one president of the United States.
Clinton answered “no” in another hint that she planned to challenge for the Democrat nomination if Joe Biden does not run for re-election.
“No, I don’t agree with that. I do agree it’s really hard. I agree that the double standard is alive and well. And so therefore any woman in politics or any walk of life faces challenges that men who are equivalent in experience don’t face. I believe that I came so close, I got more votes, unprecedented things happened to me — we all learned a lot from that campaign. I do think it’s possible. I do think it’s hard. There’s a line from one of my favorite movies, ‘A League of Their Own’: ‘If it wasn’t hard, anybody could do it,’” Clinton stated.
Clinton played to the liberal base by nodding her head to ‘hate speech’ on the internet – which Clinton previously called to be censored.
“I would also add that there is a feeling of increasing pushback to women’s ambitions and roles. We see it obviously with the Supreme Court, but social media has enhanced misogyny and sexism. It’s hurtful, because it becomes part of the ecosystem. There are a lot of good points that Rep. Ocasio-Cortez made in the article that I do agree with, but I think we will get there. But everybody needs to go after that goal with clear eyes and understanding how hard it is,” Clinton added.
There is no political upside to Hillary Clinton overtly stating her intention to run for president.
Doing so would only make it look like Clinton was undermining the sitting president from her own party in the heat of a midterm election.
But Clinton clearly has someone in mind when she says the American people will elect a woman president one day.
And it is the woman Hillary Clinton looks at in the mirror every day when she wakes up.
