Donald Trump selected James “Mad Dog” Mattis to be Secretary of Defense to clean up the mess left behind by Barack Obama.
He set about to rebuild the military after Obama depleted its capabilities.
But he just found out life-changing news from the last place he ever expected.
Donald Trump Gives an Answer on Mattis that Shocks Many Americans
Donald Trump appeared on CBS 60 Minutes for an interview with liberal journalist Lesley Stahl.
At one point, Stahl asked him if Mattis was going to leave.
Trump answered, “Well, I don’t know. He hasn’t told me that.”
But Trump expanded on that response.
He said Mattis could leave in the near future.
Trump also claimed Mattis was more of a Democrat than a Republican.
But he also noted that he and Mattis had a good relationship.
“I have a very good relationship with him. I had lunch with him two days ago. I have a very good relationship with him. It could be that he is. I think he’s sort of a Democrat, if you want to know the truth,” Trump said “But General Mattis is a good guy. We get along very well. He may leave. I mean, at some point, everybody leaves. Everybody. People leave. That’s Washington.”
Mattis opposed Trump on key policy decisions.
He did not agree with Trump banning transgenders from the armed forces.
Mattis also fought the President on withdrawing from the Iranian nuclear deal and Obama’s Paris Global Warming accords.
That led to reports that Trump nicknamed Mattis “Moderate” Mattis instead of “Mad Dog.”
Trump and Mattis have another Disagreement
Stahl pressed Trump on his criticism of NATO.
Globalists and establishment politicians love NATO.
European countries provide generous welfare states at home because the United States picks up the tab for defending Europe.
But the organization is outdated.
The Soviet Union no longer exists.
Trump stated NATO countries needed to start meeting their obligation of spending two percent of their GDP on defense.
Only a handful of countries met that requirement.
Stahl asked Trump about a report that Mattis told him the reason NATO exists is to prevent World War 3.
Trump told her that was fake news.
“No, it’s not true. … Frankly, I like General Mattis. I think I know more about it than he does. And I know more about it from the standpoint of fairness, that I can tell you,” Trump responded.
Stahl tried a second question about Mattis and NATO.
Trump again said that NATO countries needed to spend more money on defense.
“Lesley, you don’t have to try again. I know exactly what you’re saying. … I will always be there with NATO, but they have to pay their way. I’m fully in favor of NATO, but I don’t wanna be taken advantage of.”
The media wants to portray Mattis leaving as another sign of chaos in the White House.
But Secretaries of Defense come and go.
Journalists will claim Mattis leaving means there are no more “adults in the room.”
They will push the idea that now there is no one left in the administration to save America from Trump.
This is another media hoax designed to depress Trump supporters and turn them against the President heading into the 2020 election.
We will keep you up to date on any new developments in this ongoing story.
