All hell broke loose in Washington when Facebook’s Oversight Board made their ruling on reinstating Trump’s account.
The administration scrambled for a response.
And Jen Psaki left jaws on the ground with this response to Facebook censoring Trump.
Facebook’s Oversight Board upheld the platform banning Donald Trump in the wake of the January 6 episode at the Capitol.
But the board also said Facebook had six months to clarify Trump’s status.
Texas Senator Ted Cruz fired off an angry tweet decrying Big Tech censoring the most high-profile conservative in the land and asking liberals that if Facebook could cancel Trump, what is to stop them from going after voices on the left.
NBC White House correspondent Kristen Welker asked press secretary Jen Psaki about her response to Senator Cruz’s tweet.
Psaki’s answer horrified Americans.
At first, Psaki tried to sidestep the issue saying the Oversight Board gave Facebook six months to decide the matter.
“Let me first say that this is an independent board’s decision and we’re not going to have any comment on the future of the former president’s social media platform,” Psaki stated, adding that “it sounds like the independent board punted back to Facebook to make in the next 6 months.”
With that tap dance out of the way, Psaki launched into a diatribe about how Facebook censoring Donald Trump was not enough.
Joe Biden’s position—Psaki explained—was that Big Tech companies needed to censor speech on their platform that contradicted Biden’s official positions because it came from “untrustworthy sources.”
“The president’s view is that the major platforms have a responsibility, related to the health and safety of all Americans, to stop amplifying untrustworthy content, disinformation, and misinformation, especially related to Covid-19, vaccinations, and elections,” Psaki continued, claiming that “there’s more that needs to be done to ensure that this type of misinformation, disinformation, damaging sometimes life-threatening information, is not going out to the American public.”
An “untrustworthy source,” according to Biden and his allies, is any source that provides a point of view to the right of The New York Times.
The only “approved” sources of information allowed on social media are corporate media outlets that promote the Democrat Party’s agenda.
To her credit, Welker followed up grilling Psaki on the First Amendment implications of the censorship regime that Joe Biden supported.
Psaki responded that Joe Biden was a big supporter of the First Amendment.
Joe Biden was such a big supporter of the First Amendment—Psaki explained—that he demanded his ideological allies in Big Tech censor any speech that disagreed with Joe Biden’s policy priorities.
“Well look, I think we are of course a believer in First Amendment rights, I think what the decisions that the social media platforms need to make is how they address the disinformation, misinformation, especially related to life-threatening issues like Covid-19 and vaccinations that continue to proliferate on their platforms,” Psaki concluded.
