Republicans are getting to the bottom of the motivation behind the 13 charges against Trump in Georgia.
The Democrats need to answer for their alarming actions.
And Jim Jordan has one damning question for the Democrat responsible for Trump’s arrest.
House Judiciary Committee Chairman Jim Jordan has opened an inquiry into Fulton County’s district attorney Fani Willis’s investigation into Donald Trump.
“Given the weighty federal interests at stake, the Committee is conducting oversight of this matter to determine whether any legislative reforms are appropriate or necessary,” Jordan said in a letter.
“Your indictment and prosecution implicate substantial federal interests, and the circumstances surrounding your actions raise serious concerns about whether they are politically motivated.”
“Turning first to the question of motivation, it is noteworthy that just four days before this indictment, you launched a new campaign fundraising website that highlighted your investigation into President Trump. Additionally, the forewoman of the special grand jury you convened to investigate President Trump earlier this year bragged during an unusual media tour about her excitement at the prospect of subpoenaing President Trump and getting to swear him in.”
The forewoman referred to in the letter is Emily Kohrs who had appeared on CNN to gloat about the investigation.
Jordan also questioned the suspicious timing of the investigation.
“You did not bring charges until two-and-a-half years later, at a time when the campaign for the Republican presidential nomination is in full swing,” he wrote.
“Moreover, you have requested that the trial in this matter begin on March 4, 2024, the day before Super Tuesday and eight days before the Georgia presidential primary. It is therefore unsurprising many have speculated that this indictment and prosecution are designed to interfere with the 2024 presidential election.”
Jordan speculated whether there had been coordination with Special Counsel Jack Smith, who also brought indictments against Trump.
“There are questions about whether and how your office coordinate with DOJ Special Counsel Jack Smith during the course of this investigation, and Congress has an interest in any such activity that involves federal law enforcement agencies, and officials that fall under its oversight,” the letter said.
John Eastman, former legal adviser to Trump who is also being charged, warned that the case “will have — and is already having — profound consequences for our system of justice.”
“I am here today to surrender to an indictment that should never have been brought,” Eastman told the press after surrendering on Tuesday. “It represents a crossing of the Rubicon for our country, implicating the fundamental First Amendment right to petition the government for redress of grievances.”
