Joe Biden just insulted grieving victims in their deepest moment of pain.
He should have been consoling them and helping them move forward.
But instead, he delivered a nasty insult to the people who lost everything in the Hawaii fire.
Joe Biden can’t help but let his mouth get him in trouble. He’s committed the most egregious gaffes for practically his entire political career.
In 2006, just before his second run for President, Biden exclaimed on camera, “In Delaware, the largest growth of population is Indian Americans, moving from India. You cannot go to a 7-11 or a Dunkin’ Donuts unless you have a slight Indian accent. I’m not joking.”
He was rightfully ridiculed for making such a stereotype like that and ended up losing the primary to Barack Obama.
Even during his first run for President in 1988, Biden sabotaged his own campaign by plagiarizing a speech from British politician Neil Kinnock.
Now, he’s committed another ridiculous gaffe about the victims of the wildfires ravaging the island of Maui.
According to Newsweek, “President Joe Biden sparked outrage during his visit to Maui after making a joke that appeared to compare the deadly wildfires on the Hawaii island with almost losing his ’67 Corvette.”
“During a speech to the crowd gathered in Lahaina, the president said he knew how it felt to lose a home.”
Here’s what Biden said: “I don’t want to compare difficulties, but we have a little sense, Jill and I, of what it’s like to lose a home. Lightning struck at home, on a little lake that’s outside of our home—not a lake, a big pond, —and hit a wire that came up underneath our home into the heating ducts and air conditioning ducts. To make a long story short, I almost lost my wife, my ’67 Corvette, and my cat.”
Clearly if he had lost his wife, that would have been terrible. But his Corvette and cat? The people of Maui have lost far more and deserve better than Joe Biden’s sick comments.
As the article makes clear, the island has been completely destroyed by the fires. “Devastating wildfires swept across Maui on August 8, reducing the historic and tourist town of Lahaina almost completely to ashes. Businesses and homes were destroyed and over 100 people were killed. About 850 are still unaccounted for, and hopes of finding them alive are slim, according to officials.”
Losing nearly 1,000 people is far worse than losing a sports car. Joe Biden might not recognize that, but most normal human beings do, and they are outraged by what he said.
